  Job Description and Duties

  The CalSTRS Retirement Readiness Division is seeking a motivated individual to work as a Pension Program Manager I (Specialist) on the Southern California Field Services (SoCal Region) Team.

  The Retirement Readiness (RR) Division is the principal area of the organization that develops, delivers, and coordinates educational services to CalSTRS members, employers, and staff. The goal of RR is to ensure that all members receive adequate, timely, and accurate information in order to make sound decisions regarding their CalSTRS benefits.

  Under the direction of the Staff Services Manager III, SoCal Regional Manager and in collaboration with the Pension2 Development managers, the SoCal Hybrid Specialist Manager independently performs a wide variety of the most complex tasks associated with providing retirement benefits planning. The incumbent must exercise a high degree of discretion, diplomacy, confidentiality, and initiative while taking independent action to resolve issues as they arise. The position is based in southern California to support the Glendale, Irvine, Riverside, and San Diego Member Service Centers (MSC) and will service the surrounding areas of southern California, requiring up to 50% travel.

  The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

  Leadership Experience.

  Experience maintaining effective, positive, collaborative working relationships with peers, leaders, team members, and key stakeholders.

  Well-developed interpersonal skills that display self-awareness and foster positive interactions with staff at all levels.

  Experience with Pension and benefits programs, defined contribution plans, 403(b) and 457(b), mutual funds or annuity type products.

  Ability to enable the process of change and transition while helping others.

  Strong oral and written communication skills.

  Strong analytical and research skills.

  Experience with public speaking and presenting complex information to various audiences.

  Experience facilitating workshops and individual sessions.

  Ability to work in a team environment and across divisions and units.

  Demonstrated strong customer service commitment.

  Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.

  This position may supervise staff in the future.

  Telework Information: Retirement Readiness hybrid work schedule is 2 days on site, 3 days remote; however, each MSC will rotate staff schedules to ensue coverage is available Mon-Fri.

  Working Conditions

  All staff of CalSTRS are employees of the State of California and subject to California employment taxes and withholdings. Upon appointment, staff are required to provide a current California address to CalSTRS Human Resources to be used as a remote work location.

  This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without the need for visa sponsorship by the start date of employment with CalSTRS.

  Tell us about a time that you led a project that required you to research and analyze data, develop an action plan, present findings, and offer recommendations to management. What was the outcome, and how did you measure your success?

  Describe your vision to educate CalSTRS members regarding supplemental savings programs in the first five years of their career.

  Please note that the Staff Services Manager I (SSMI) examination certification list will be used as an appropriate to fill this position. If appointed as a (Pension Program Manager I Specialist (PPMI), you must meet the minimum qualifications for both the (SSMI) AND the (PPMI) appropriate classification.   Background Investigation

  Prior to employment with CalSTRS, a background investigation (BI) will be conducted. The BI consists of a Personal History Statement and fingerprinting through the Department of Justice. The BI will check criminal and civil records and, if applicable, verify education and check driving records.
