Facilities Management (FM) provides maintenance, grounds, and custodial services to the entire campus. FM serves as a partner within the zone structure for the Contract Colleges (CC), Endowed (EN), and Student and Campus Life (SCL) zones. As a key steward of the University's facilities, FM is responsible for facility assessments, skilled trades, general construction, building care, grounds, recycling, asbestos, and the management of planned, corrective, and preventive maintenance.

Position Summary:
Serve as backup shift mechanic, which involves responding to all facilities related trouble calls, including emergency calls. Act independently to assess situations, troubleshoot problems, and take appropriate actions. Possess authority to call trades people in on overtime for assistance or repair. If necessary, alert building occupants and others to potentially dangerous conditions. Provide support and assistance to members of the Cornell community who are experience facility related problem situations (e.g., locked out of room or stuck in an elevator). Document and record all maintenance activities and related billable hours for equipment maintenance records as required. Troubleshoot and maintain building heating systems (i.e., boilers, burners, electric, and university steam), cooling systems (i.e., package units, chillers, and university chilled water), and other mechanical and HVACR equipment found in commercial, industrial, residential, and research facilities. Perform routine and preventive maintenance on facilities equipment.
Operate and maintain specialized equipment or systems in support of generators, pools, water, and window covering performing full responsibilities on an as needed basis. Perform Preventive Maintenance on all building mechanical equipment. Monitor all building systems to ensure proper functioning of all equipment.

This is an endowed position within the UAW Local 2300. The starting pay rate is $28.32/hour.
We Require These Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.Minimum of five years' experience in building trades or other relevant mechanical experience.The position requires a thorough understanding of facilities systems and equipment.Must have excellent communication skills, verbal and written, as well as excellent customer service skills.Experience working in a team environment to accomplish goals required.Ability to learn and maintain a working knowledge of the entire campus and building systems.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, tech manuals and detailed work instructions.Ability to use common test equipment such as multi-meters, tension meters, alignment tools, etc.Excellent troubleshooting skills.Demonstrated ability to use computers.Must be able to lift and/or move 100 lbs.Ability to work in confined spaces.Must have and maintain a valid driver's license; may be required to operate a motor vehicle (your own vehicle or Cornell-owned) to travel to/from job sites.Demonstrated ability to work independently.Delivers heavy materials to workers.The ability to ascend and descend heights and have agility and freedom of movement. Climbs stairs and ladders.Able to move easily in confined spaces.Must be able to wear a respirator.Ability to work a rotating 12-hour shift as needed. Subject to shift changes and extended working hours (including nights, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays) to meet seasonal work demand.Subject to working in weather related extremes of heat and cold for extended periods as well as exposure to extreme dust, dirt, and insects, including bees.
