What's the role in a nutshell?
The people joining us would either work out of our Sensory Science Centre in Pleasantville, NY, or be dedicated on-site at our clients’ facilities, mostly in Northern New Jersey.
These are exciting opportunities where the Sensory Panel Leader / Manager will be primarily responsible for managing descriptive and discrimination panels. Other responsibilities can include managing junior sensory panel leaders or technicians, setting-up a sensory panel from scratch, including screening and training panelists and creating calibrated scales, and leading the client’s sensory projects through completion; from initial briefing to analyzing data. You will ensure the highest quality in research designs, panel session planning and leadership, sensory moderation, panel performance analysis and monitoring, to fulfil our clients’ needs and fit their KPIs. You will be engaged with both MMR’s and the client’s sensory teams, so really a great learning experience!
What will you be doing?
· Setting up a sensory panel, including screening and training panelists on relevant categories
Managing the sensory panel and lead panel sessions on clients’ projects, to ensure smooth delivery of sensory research and consistently deliver high quality descriptive analysis data
·Managing sensory project requests from client’s sensory team; designing the associated sensory research methodology and running the sessions. You will work with the client to make sure the best methodologies and practices are applied
·Supervising Sensory Panel Assistant / Junior Panel Leader and ensuring full proficiency with the preparation of the sensory panel(s) sessions and product management
·Preparing panel sessions on the provided sensory software as needed
·Regularly recruiting and training new panelists to keep panel numbers at a required level
·Collecting and analyzing panel monitoring data on each project and providing relevant feedback and one-to-one reviews with sensory panelists, in order to maximize data quality, and panel engagement and motivation
·Assisting with product preparation and serving as required for the smooth running of projects
·Ensuring that the client is kept up to date with project progress, and receives and understands draft lexicons and topline results whenever appropriate
· Working together with the client to advice and develop new sensory methodologies to address their business and consumer challenges.
Requirements
· Degree in Food Science/Sensory Science or equivalent professional experience
· Knowledge of Sensory / Statistical Analysis – (Spectrum, QDA, Panel performance metrics, Post hoc analysis, PCA…)
· Fluent written and spoken English
· Experience in sensory panel management
· Experience with sensory software and data analysis ideal (Compusense, Eye Question) Note: training will be provided on the relevant data collection and analysis softwares
· Exposure to an FMCG environment is a plus
· Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
· Strong collaboration and communication skills
· Ability to work well within a team
· People and team management skills
· Able to work independently
· A plus: being a foodie who is passionate with food and cooking
