Your Opportunity
Our Indigenous Services team specializes in Indigenous engagement support, Indigenous traditional knowledge and land use studies, and the integration of Indigenous knowledge into environmental impact assessments across Canada. We have provided planning, management, assessment, and mitigation services to private sector resource developers, all levels of government, non-governmental groups, and Indigenous communities. We practice respectful collection and interpretation of information in collaboration with Indigenous groups.
Stantec’s Indigenous Services team has an opportunity for a Senior Facilitator. The Senior Indigenous Services Facilitator will be responsible for delivering Indigenous Services, which include environmental assessment and permitting processes, Indigenous knowledge studies, report writing, and assisting with Indigenous consultation and engagement activities.
This position is located in one of our Ontario offices.
Your Key Responsibilities
Providing senior technical leadership for the Indigenous Services team and staff across Canada who assist with Indigenous Services work.
Designing and defending study and consultation programs to meet the requirements of both clients and regulators.
Liaising with project managers and other departments as well as internal and external clients to ensure the delivery of objectives.
Providing regulatory expertise related to Indigenous aspects of environmental assessment at provincial, territorial and federal levels.
Contributing to Environmental Services technical initiatives in Indigenous Services.
Project management including the creation and management of project budgets and schedules.
Conducting Indigenous knowledge and traditional land use studies, including interviews and field studies.
Reporting, documentation and quality review.
Completing assessments for regulatory applications.
Completion of projects efficiently within allocated budgets and timelines.
Building internal Indigenous Services capacity within Stantec, including providing guidance, support and mentoring to junior staff.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Strong Indigenous-focused regulatory and environmental assessment skills.
Knowledge of Indigenous cultural, historical, and political context in Canada.
Outstanding interpersonal ability with diverse cultural groups.
Excellent oral and demonstrated written communication skills.
Demonstrate good listening and problem-solving skills to assist in decision-making and provide expertise to clients and peers.
Ability to work seamlessly with multidisciplinary project teams and execute projects collaboratively.
Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Periodic short-term, regional travel expectations.
Minimum 5 years of experience related to Indigenous engagement and/or environmental project development, coordination, and implementation.
Previous experience undertaking environmental impact assessments, such as the Class EA process, the TPAP process, and/or the Ontario Energy Board/Canada Energy Regulator/Impact Assessment Act processes is preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
Education and Experience
Diploma and/or bachelor’s degree or higher. (Indigenous studies, anthropology, sociology, geography, archaeology and/or environmental sciences)
10 years' experience in environmental services.
5 years' experience with Indigenous Services.
Completion of industry-specific safety training certificates and cultural safety training are an asset.
Relevant consulting experience is an asset.
Socioeconomics or public health assessment experience is an asset.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
