  Discovery Tech team helps customers discover and engage with new, popular and relevant products across Amazon worldwide. We do this by combining technology, science, innovation and creativity to build new customer-facing features and experiences alongside cutting edge tools for marketers. You will be responsible for creating and building critical services that automatically generate, target, and optimize Amazon’s cross-category marketing and merchandising. Through the enablement of intelligent marketing campaigns that leverage machine-learning models, you will help to deliver the best possible shopping experience for Amazon’s customers all over the globe.

  We are looking for a Senior Technical Program Manager to join our team focusing on developing and scaling a critical service that delivers product recommendations to customers. You will work closely with software engineers and product managers across different teams on a daily basis to define system architecture, elaborate user stories and discuss technical trade-offs. You will negotiate features and release timelines between multiple internal teams to maximize the benefit to Amazon and our customers. This role is inherently cross-functional—you will work closely with Engineering, Product, Business, and Executive teams.

  Great candidates for this position possess a sound understanding of computer science and a passion to make a profound impact for our customers. You will have the opportunity to apply this passion by leveraging your technical and program management skills leading large, critical projects involving distributed systems, web development, front-end/back-end design, and more. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with diverse business and technical partners to shape our technology.

  Candidates need to have a strong sense of ownership, passion to provide great customer experiences, creative and an analytical problem solving. and excellent troubleshooting skills in fast-paced and high-pressure situations.

  About the team

  We believe in regular feature develop and frequent experimentation, allowing us to continuously improve the customer experience. You will have the opportunity to explore the many channels Amazon provides for customer outreach and engagement, both onsite and offsite. As a new team, we carry little tech debt. We prioritize writing high quality and maintainable code, and build systems that leverage existing tools to provide extensive test coverage across our services. The team provides a great opportunity to make an outsized impact in a burgeoning space and on fresh or even yet to be built services. There are few opportunities anywhere to start on a new team and make an immediate impact at this scale.

  Basic Qualifications

  Experience managing technical programs across cross-functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules

  Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition

  Experience working directly with engineering teams

  Experience in system design

  Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field.

  6+ years of program/product management (or software engineering) and software product delivery experience

  Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to use data and metrics to back up assumptions, recommendations and drive actions.

  High attention to detail including precise and effective stakeholder communications and proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously

  Demonstrated ability to understand and discuss technical concepts, manage tradeoffs and evaluate opportunistic new ideas with internal and external partners

  Experience leading cross-functional teams to deliver products and projects on tight deadlines

  Experience coordinating complex product development cycles and software development schedules

  Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated experience engaging and influencing senior executives

  Experience solving problems leveraging data driven decision making

  Proven experience developing and leading multi-team programs and initiatives Excellent (English) communication and analytical skills

  Preferred Qualifications

  Master’s Degree or advanced professional certifications 4+ years of relevant work experience in large-scale, Technical Program Management

  Experience in developing Technical strategies High degree of comfort presenting to senior management, business stakeholders, and external partners

  Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $119,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $231,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
