We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to lead autonomy software and vehicle platform prototype development projects, guide development by 3rd parties on behalf of our sponsors, and lend systems engineering and architecture expertise to our sponsors as we help them modernize their uncrewed systems acquisition approach. You will be joining a hardworking team of engineers who cultivate a dynamic collaborative environment to architect, design, develop, integrate, and test end-to-end autonomous systems. Your efforts will directly impact to the development of the Navy's future uncrewed fleet.
As a Senior Engineer for Robotic Systems you will...
Take ownership of systems engineering for uncrewed platforms featuring advanced autonomy and sensing capabilities. Tasks will include requirements definition, architecture design, performance analysis, and testing for the complete systems as well as associated sub-systems.Guide sponsors on activities and documentation for implementing best practices in software development and testing, and applying them within the Government acquisition framework.Propose and develop innovative ways to integrate novel technologies to extend the capabilities and performance of existing naval systems.Lead development teams at JHU/APL who are prototyping autonomy and uncrewed systems software and hardware for maritime applications. Provide technical insight and guidance on behalf of our sponsors to ensure that they and their 3rdparty developers are following good design, test, and systems engineering practices.Develop and lead periodic design reviews, as well as, technical reports and other briefing materials for presentation to all levels of staff and government agencies.Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
Have 5+ years of relevant Systems Engineering experience and a B.S. in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.Have experience developing requirements, performing trade studies, managing system integration, and guiding test and evaluation with uncrewed or autonomous systems.Have experience and familiarity with DOD acquisition or DOD R&D approaches, policies, and Systems Engineering products, applied to either uncrewed systems, maritime systems, or deployed software.Have experience leading teams of engineers with diverse technical skills.Have experience effectively communicating with all levels of staff and clients.Are willing and able to travel up to 10% of the time.Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Have an M.S. or Ph.D. in Engineering or a related technical field.Have 6 or more years of experience working in uncrewed, autonomous, or robotic systems in DOD acquisition.Have experience developing and testing software architectures, software test pipelines, and or implementing Agile software acquisition and DevSecOps.Demonstrate superior initiative, energy, and organizational skills.
Base pay will take into account the selected candidate's knowledge, experience, skill and/or abilities with consideration for internal parity. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance and training and development. Base pay range for this role: $90,000-$315,000
