  Job Description:

  Primary Purpose of Role:

  The Tool Room Senior Supervisor/Engineer manages the daily activities and resources regarding Tool Room and Cutter Grind operations with focus on execution and implementation of best practices to achieve organizational goals and objectives. This role will supervise hourly represented skilled trades employees, collaborate with engineering resources, and assist the plant maintenance organizations. Work will come from a variety of sources and includes prototype transmission parts and test fixturing, emergency repair and reverse engineered machine parts, production machine work holding, gaging and specialty tooling. Work also includes managing sharpening of most cutting tools for production plants. This role requires knowledge and practical experience of Tool Room routing and processing, sharpening tools in Cutter Grind, and a working understanding of a multitude of machining processes including turning, milling, grinding, broaching, honing, and heat treat.

  Key Responsibilities:

  Supervise hourly skilled trades employees including coordinating their work, managing employee performance, time off, etc.

  Support emergency breakdown issues in the manufacturing plants as they relate to machine parts repair.

  Analyze production process elements for improved performance and reduced cost.

  Manage resource costs to a budget and document variances.

  Provide a physical presence on the production floor and support services areas.

  Responsible for the acquisition, operational performance, and maintenance of departmental machinery and equipment.

  Key Performance Measures:

  Ensure team compliance with all safety policies and procedures.

  Responsible for Tool Room finished parts and Cutter Grind sharpening quality performance.

  Manage hourly employee productivity and effectiveness with focus on work backlog.

  Service various internal organizations, like Engineering, Maintenance and Production, creating a timely and positive customer experience.

  Demonstrate a financially responsible adherence to established budgets and forecasts.

  Competencies and Behaviors:

  Required:

  Computer literacy (MS Office) and able to learn and master Maximo, SAP, AutoCad and Visual Manufacturing software programs.

  Knowledge of tooling and manufacturing process and equipment.

  High level of analytical ability where problems are complex.

  Able to work effectively with others outside the work group, including engineering and other production support personnel.

  Good written and oral communication skills.

  The ability to work independently, and a willingness to seek counsel on difficult issues.

  Comfortable working on a variety of tasks at the same time.

  Exceptional organization skills.

  Preferred:

  Understanding of how to adhere to and administrate Union contract.Qualifications:

  Required :

  Bachelors degree in Engineering discipline or accredited Toolmaker with 3+ years supervisory experience.

  Preferred :

  Bachelors degree in Engineering discipline.

  Experience:

  Required :

  1+ years supervisory/managerial experience

  Experience working in a Tool Room, specifically with machine repair equipment.

  Experience working in a manufacturing environment with an emphasis on metal removal.

  Preferred :

  3+ years supervisory/managerial experience.

  Experience in a Union environment.

  Scope Factors

  Second level supervisor: Responsible for supervising a team; includes mentoring, providing training, monitoring work quality, coaching on performance, and contributing to pay decisions/changes; responsible for the quality of results produced by the team.

  Supervises team of hourly/support employees, first level-supervisors or small team of professional/technical employees

  Frequently interacts with direct leadership, peers, and direct reports within the same function. Experienced people supervisor with full-time supervisory level responsible for an assigned work group.

  Supervise a group that typically consists of professional or support level with similar or varied skills.

  Sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion; coordinates work with other supervisors.

  Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results will cause delays in schedules.
