This opportunity entails being responsible for participating in the coordination and implementation of public engagement and involvement programs for infrastructure projects. This position plays a role in the development of communication strategies including materials, and digital and print content. It also includes researching, gathering data, and creating project messaging resources to educate the community.
This position will also participate in the development of digital strategies and key performance indicators for the purpose of tracking accomplishments and milestones.
What You'll Do:
Develops and helps implement effective dissemination of outreach materials, facts and information on project messaging and supports client activities to stakeholders according to the public outreach plan including external agencies, associations, and news organizations using print, periodicals, radio, social and/or visual communication media.
Reviews and refines records and reports related to public involvement meetings, forums and public hearings as well as tracks social engagement and other digital strategies as needed.
Drafts speeches, creates and designs presentation materials, prepares remarks, briefing documents and/or composes correspondence for use in mailings, meetings, workshops and other public events.
Responsible for initial fact checking for reports, articles, and other publications.
Develops and implements digital strategies for use on web-based communications, including but not limited to websites and social channels.
Helps develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and reviews draft reports to indicate a campaign's milestones.
Supports coordination efforts for public meetings and engagements to best support outreach and initiative goals.
Interacts with clients to coordinate implementation of communication programs and goals.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need:
Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Marketing, Communications, English, Journalism or related field and 6 years of relevant experience, or
In lieu of education, 10 years of relevant experience
Primary Focus Will Include:
Develop and implement innovative strategies to educate and engage the public about complex transportation projects.
Regular engagement with our planners and engineers to evaluate opportunities to incorporate public input into our projects.
Develop and implement communications plans built around strategic engagement with key constituents including the public, elected officials and the media.
Develop and implement equitable engagement strategies focused on meaningful involvement from underrepresented communities.
Interact with clients to coordinate implementation of communication programs.
Produce and coordinate dissemination of public-facing content including web copy, graphics, fact sheets, presentations, newsletters, social media posts, videos, display boards, etc.
Create and design presentation materials and compose correspondence for use in mailings and meetings.
Develop messaging platforms tailored to project audiences
Facilitate outreach meetings (in-person and online).
Manage constituent correspondence and comment databases
Prepare reports related to the public involvement process
Perform other duties related to public communications as needed.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
6 years relevant experience
Content creation experience
Social media account management experience
Able to distill technical information into digestible and compelling content for external audiences
Strong communicator with the ability to build messaging that is clear, concise and connected to a cohesive strategy
Experience working with public agencies in Washington State
High attention to detail and a commitment to produce consistent, high-quality work
Interest in transportation and infrastructure
Able to handle multiple projects and organize assignments around established deadlines
Commitment to continued learning and growth, particularly as it relates to meaningful and inclusive participation
Active listener who can effectively partner with clients to identify objectives

The approximate pay range for Washington is $79,356.08 - $142,739.21. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
