The primary focus of this role is to support Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) as the Senior Environmental Specialist. The individual in this role will primarily be responsible for providing scientific and engineering expertise to address global environmental regulatory requirements and bring innovative ideas forward to maintain and improve the BMS environmental footprint. The successful applicant will also be responsible for assisting with the BMS waste management and waste minimization programs, providing support to our Ozone Depleting Substances (refrigerants) program and supporting our corporate EOHSS goals. This position plays an important role in the Global Environmental Center of Excellence and reports to the Director, Environmental Programs.
Major Responsibilities and Accountabilities :
Collaborate with site EHS to identify waste diversion, waste reduction and innovative waste technology opportunities to support our Zero Waste to Landfill goal.
Partner with local site teams and various subject matter experts to assist with the development and execution of composting efforts across the network and programs like Go Green.
Actively engage with innovative ideas to promote a global waste pollution prevention program that encompasses concepts of a circular economy.
Become a valued partner by learning waste compliance requirements across the network and tracking regulations related to waste management and air compliance.
Support strategic corporate programs like Ozone Depleting Substance refrigerant management projects/systems and Greenhouse Gas reduction efforts.
Assist with the development and utilization of an improved environmental metrics reporting platform.
Effectively communicate technical subject matter, both verbally and in writing, at all organizational levels and functions.
Review and ensure accurate and complete resolution of issues as they arise and escalates concerns, with urgency to appropriate leaders in the organization.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor and/or Master’s degree in Science, Engineering, Public Health or Environmental related field
Minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of previous environmental or waste management experience is required.
Passionate self-starter with the ability to actively participate in diverse matrix teams in a global environment.
Highly skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable learning and working in enterprise database systems.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to attend to multiple high priority items simultaneously and think creatively, critically, and strategically to solve problems in a complex environment with both urgency and agility.
Typical daily activities are within the office environment with 30% travel to BMS facilities which may require outdoor work and/or to business/industry meetings.
