Spectrum Systems Lab (SSL) Engineers are hardworking problem solvers with an ability to learn and think creatively! We support research and technology development for projects funded externally and internally helping advance the state-of-the-art for Defense and prepare our customers and Lockheed Martin for the future of tomorrow.
What you’ll do:
Are you a skilled software engineer? As a software engineer in SSL your day-to-day responsibilities vary based on the needs of our programs. We pride ourselves in the flexibility we give to our engineers to pursue projects that are of interest to them and give opportunities to engineers to grow and learn about what others in the lab are doing.
You will work on multidisciplinary teams with a variety of backgrounds, including electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, software engineering, computer science, and data science. Projects can range from applied research to building one-of-a-kind prototypes to supporting field tests and demonstrations. SSL projects work on a range of RF domains, including jamming, radar, and multi-target tracking systems, and apply advanced techniques for digital signal processing and machine learning to these domains. Familiarity with these areas is a bonus but not required; on-the-job learning is part of the job!
Based on our current needs, your skills and the skills you wish to acquire, you could be tasked with any of the following:
Software development:
• Collaborate with researchers to deploy novel algorithms to end-to-end systems
• Design, implement, and optimize real-time software to acquire and process data from sensor hardware
• Apply modern software architectural approaches, such as microservices
• Design and implement data science pipelines for automated analysis of large data sets
• Perform code reviews
• Lead and mentor small teams of junior developers with a range of backgrounds
• Lead teams using Agile methods
DevSecOps:
• Develop smoke, integration, and unit tests
• Build CI/CD pipelines to automate software builds, tests and deployments
• Perform release management
Field tests:
• Participate in large-scale field tests where our systems are tested on the ground, at sea, and in the air on commercial or military assets
Basic Qualifications:
• B.S. from an accredited university (M.S. preferred) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field
• 5-10 years of experience in software development. Considered Mid-Career
• Expertise with C++ and experience in at least one other language, e.g., Python (preferred), Java, MATLAB
• Experience developing for Linux environments
• Experience with containers
• Experience with modern version control systems, e.g., Git, GitHub, GitLab
• Experience with CI/CD
• Experience working on an Agile development team, e.g., Scrum, Kanban
• Experience performing code reviews
• Ability to obtain a security clearance to at least the Secret level (TS Preferred)
Desired Skills:
• Experience with messaging systems, e.g., ZeroMQ, ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ, Kafka, DDS, ROS
• Experience with APIs, e.g., REST, gRPC
• Experience with SQL/No-SQL databases
• Experience with microservices
• Knowledge of modern DevSecOps tools and practices

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
