Within AbbVie’s Analytical R&D function, the Senior Scientist I/II will play a key role in Digital Transformation initiatives by managing enterprise systems, leading training and harmonization activities, interacting with vendors to remain abreast of current developments, and implementing continuous improvements while proposing new ways to further overall Digital Transformation efforts.
This position can be based from our North Chicago headquarters; Irvine, CA; or South San Francisco, CA. The position will be expected to be on-site 3 days per week.
Key Responsibilities:
Has responsibilities for various enterprise IT systems supporting Analytical R&D (e.g Electronic Lab Notebook (GRE), Chromatography Data System Empower, etc.) for different US-based development sites.
Manages effectively local/global interfaces within Development Sciences (Biologics and Small Molecules Analytical RD Project teams, Development Sciences Digital Transformation, Business Technology Solutions, Quality Assurance, etc.) and drives global harmonization and alignment.
Authors internal guidance documents, procedures, work instructions, and white papers to support ARD’s business.
Participates at application and/or vendor specific user meetings to exchange thoughts and get new insights into current development.
Contributes to Development Sciences Digital Transformation activities by actively representing global Analytical R&D perspectives, needs and priorities
Routinely demonstrate scientific initiative and creativity in data systems research or development activities. Draw conclusions and design follow-on activities based on data.
May identify new data strategy focus areas that are scientifically meaningful, reliable, and can be incorporated directly into a research or development program.
Demonstrates high proficiency across a wide range of relevant technologies.
Demonstrate the ability to resolve key project hurdles and assumptions by effectively utilizing available information and technical expertise.
Proactively seek out new information in the literature and incorporate into individual project(s) as well as the overall program.
Qualifications:
BS, MS, or PhD in chemistry, computer science, or related fields.
Bachelor’s degree and typically 10 years of experience, Master’s degree and typically 8 years of experience, PhD and no experience necessary.
Possess thorough theoretical and practical understanding of own scientific discipline.
Background in analytical chemistry or similar field preferred.
Direct experience with electronic lab notebooks, Chromatography Data System Empower, or related R&D IT systems is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to independently execute and interpret activities in own area of responsibility to answer scientific questions.
