  Brief Job Overview

  This is a non-supervisory position in Reference Standard Evaluation (RSE) department, responsible for oversight and successful implementation and completion of chemical information activities pertaining to a portfolio of reference materials including USP Reference Standards, Analytical Reference Materials (ARMs), Pharmaceutical Analytical Impurities (PAIs), Extractable and Leachable (E&L) or any other physical materials USP intend to develop. This incumbent is responsible for coordination of activities within and across other USP divisions. The candidate will work in close collaboration with Chemical Information group, translational informatics team, Product Management group, reference standards scientist, documentary standards scientists, quality assurance, materials program management etc. The candidate will populate internal spread sheets and/or databases by assessing the available public and USP-internal chemical information for the physical materials that are intended to be developed as USP products. The candidate is responsible for developing USP items names using conventional approaches and ensuring the accuracy of chemical information to other used in USP internal and public-facing documents. The incumbent will involve in requesting CAS numbers as needed.

  How will YOU create impact here at USP?

  The position is expected to contribute to all activities related to chemical information including trivial names, chemical names, CAS numbers, molecular weights, molecular formulas etc. for all physical reference materials.

  Responsible for managing the chemical information in USP internal and customer-facing documents.

  Reviewing the data package from material suppliers.

  Responsible for populating the spread sheets and/or databases with chemical information.

  Ensures accuracy of the chemical information for all materials.

  Removing availability of trivial names and chemical information as the bottleneck for physical materials.

  Managing chemical information changes.

  Performs and participate in other related duties as assigned.

  Who USP is Looking For?

  The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of our mission, commitment to excellence through inclusive and equitable behaviors and practices, ability to quickly build credibility with stakeholders, along with the following competencies and experience:

  Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or related field with 7 to 10 years working experience in synthetic organic chemistry lab.

  MS in Organic Chemistry or related field with 11 to 13 years of work experience in synthetic organic chemistry lab.

  Thorough understanding rules for naming chemical materials including trivial names.

  Must have Familiarity with Chemical abstract service, requesting CAS numbers.

  Must have Familiarity with IUPAC(International union pure and applied chemistry) naming conventions and able to evaluate IUPAC name independently.

  Familiarity of chiral synthesis and naming of chiral molecules and knowledge of other stereochemical aspects of nomenclature.

  Additional Desired Preferences

  Excellent written and verbal communications skills

  Familiarity with INN/ USAN/ GSRS database /UNII, Inch Ikey, SMILES.

  Ability to operate independently where appropriate yet understand when to escalate issues and how to establish effective working relationships.

  Project Management skills. Must have ability to prioritize and manage multiple, concurrent projects in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with changing deadlines and priorities.

  Able to work flexible hours when needed to meet the project timelines.

  Strong skills in troubleshooting and solving technical problems.

  Experience with, and knowledge of the USP-NF is preferred.
