Position Description
Job Summary
The Senior Research Technician safely performs moderately complex activities and/or product development activities with minimal supervision. He/she works with engineers and customers in solving related problems. In addition, this position may also perform advanced specialized technical functions involving testing, analyzing, improving, installing, operating, and/or solving problems concerning complex processes, equipment, and products for assigned areas.
Responsibilities:
Conduct experiments in the areas of finishing, grinding, machining, tribology, and metrology on a variety of machines and a variety of materials including metals, polymers, and ceramics.Work with project leaders to develop new test methods, improve existing techniques, and update and create SOPs. Work with engineers and internal customers to collaborate on the design of special fixtures & tooling.Use electronic data acquisition and metrology tools, such as micrometers and surface profilometers, to collect process information. Record test and measurement data. Perform preliminary statistical data analysis and present results. Maintain laboratory equipment including set-up, operation, and troubleshooting of experimental equipment or instruments. Lead troubleshooting initiatives and machine repair efforts.Perform preventive maintenance on equipment
Required Qualifications
Associate degree in an engineering, technical, or science-related field or in lieu of degree demonstrated equivalent knowledge with 4-7 years of experienceWork experience with various equipment such as complex assembly and processing or test equipment with CN/CNC & PLC controls, and/or lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other finishing machinesAbility to read engineering drawingsExperience in Microsoft products including ExcelKnowledge of AutoCAD, SOLID Works, and other CAD/CAM systems is desiredKnowledge of CNC programming is desired
