The Senior Research Scientist participates in research study design, analysis and interpretation of results, with special emphasis on statistical and analytical plan development; data acquisition, preparation, and management; statistical analysis and interpretation of findings. The Senior Research Scientist work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
Through the design and implementation of various types of research studies and the strategic interpretation of data, the mission of Humana Healthcare Research (HHR) is to produce high-quality, actionable evidence and rigorous, peer-reviewed research to improve health outcomes, guide Humana's strategy, and advance the body of knowledge for the scientific community and society at large. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to, internal pharmacy comparative effectiveness research; policy, payment, and care delivery; and health equity and the impact of social determinants of health on outcomes. HHR also maintains external partnerships with industry, government, academia, and others to produce research important to internal and external stakeholders.
HHR needs your research study design and analytical skills to help us tell a compelling story about healthcare today. We're a team of research professionals passionate about combining and analyzing diverse types of data to extract new, actionable discoveries about our members and their health-related behaviors. We encourage you to dive into your passion for research, data and use analysis to help Humana tell the health-and-wellness stories of our members. A successful candidate will be knowledgeable in various methodologies such as propensity score analysis, inverse probability treatment weighting, difference in difference, interrupted time series analysis, regression discontinuity designs, etc. and have experience designing retrospective observational studies using administrative claims data.
Assignment Capsule:
As part of the HHR team, you will work collaboratively to design and conduct outcomes research studies:
Identify and understand business and clinical issues to map these issues into quantitative questions.
Contribute to study conceptualization, literature reviews and protocol development.
Design scientifically valid research studies to answer relevant questions.
Explore relevant data sources to understand what metrics can be produced.
Coordinate the integration of data to determine clinical and economic trends and impact.
Work with complex health care databases to produce statistical output and interpret results.
Report results for studies through presentations, abstracts and publications.
Communicate insights and analytical findings to a broad range of audiences.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in health services research, statistics, quantitative social science or related analytical focused field.
Substantial experience working on large and dynamic real-world data sources, such as administrative claims databases and electronic health records, for observational studies and real-world evidence generation.
Experience using various technical and analytical tools to manipulate and draw insights from large, complex data sets.
Knowledgeable in research study designs and various methods for causal inference.
Knowledge and experience with SAS.
Proficiency in at least one statistical coding language.
Ability to work independently and efficiently to manage multiple competing projects and initiatives.
Strong verbal and written communication with the ability to communicate analytical data and insights to a wide variety of consumers.
Experience working collaboratively on research teams and with peers.
Previous experience creating a research/analytical plan, completing in depth analysis on large data sets, communicating the outcomes or findings to others.
Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree or PhD in outcomes research, epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, public health, health services research or related quantitative or analytical field.
Exposure to clinical, claims, pharmacy or other healthcare data.

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.$93,000 - $128,000 per yearThis job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan.
