This role is hybrid (3-days) based at our Northbrook or Chicago, IL office.
As an Energy Efficiency senior project manager at UL Solutions, you would be involved in facilitating energy conservation by identifying and implementing various options for saving energy, leading awareness programs and monitoring energy consumption across the global owned and leased with operational control sites of UL Solutions. Responsibilities would also involve the development and/or evaluation of energy-related projects or programs to reduce energy costs and/or improve energy efficiency within the UL Solutions global offices, warehouses, and laboratories involving energy production, energy transmission and energy use.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee energy assessment and greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory process, collection of and analysis of all key utility, financial and operations data.
Act as a thought leader, innovator and project manager on global, regional and local energy and carbon reduction initiatives.
Measure, monitor and report on the progress and overall impact of GHG/carbon reduction plans.
Create and lead internal projects/campaigns/education opportunities to strengthen energy efficiency strategies and improve carbon reduction impacts.
Support collaboration across business units and functions to deliver commitments set forth by the decarbonization strategy.
Perform analysis to determine savings/energy reduction opportunities using energy information systems, utility usage data, facility and operations submeter data and various billing/cost data.
Consult with internal and external SMEs for best practices and program development in alignment with operational strategies.
Drive communication of best practices across all locations facilitating consistent application of key principles at all sites.
Coordinate energy consumption and reduction information and innovative ideas and opportunities across all functions to ensure optimal results, including Procurement, Facilities and Real Estate, Laboratory Operations, and global regions.
Perform cost/benefit analysis including creative/innovative/best practice ways to fund efforts (e.g. internal carbon taxing)
Publish key monthly reports for management team that show usage trends, project progress, and savings tracking.
Serve as the subject matter expert for decarbonization, energy efficiency, renewable energy and power purchase agreements (PPAs); monitor emerging trends, programs and issues, and communicate and educate others on energy and carbon related topics. Make recommendations and drive action to address emerging sustainability issues, standards and best practices.
Actively serve on the Corporate Sustainability Council as decarbonization and energy efficiency subject matter expert (SME) representative.
Work closely with the internal communications team to design and implement internal and external communications to drive UL Solutions’ decarbonization efforts and employee engagement.
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, with 3+ years experience in sustainability, energy management and greenhouse gas accounting
Experience in energy efficiency methods and techniques in industrial operations as well as building automation systems
Familiarity with energy incentive programs and rebates
Strong strategic, analytical, communication and decision-making skills
Able to communicate effectively with executive management and at all levels of the organization
Excellent time management skills
Adaptable to shifting priorities
Up to 10% global travel required
