What you’ll do:
The Senior Engineer is responsible for power and control system development related to our Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) for microgrid products. This role entails defining methodology for used in energy management, maintaining power system models, test strategy, developing test in control system models, scripts, and validation procedures to ensure the functionality of the application for the Power Expert Microgrid Control (PXMC) product in the electrical power distribution industry. This position works closely with Control System team and Eaton Research Lab (ERL) in Electrical sector business of the Eaton.
A self-motivated individual is imperative; one who is always looking for learning new technology and ways to improve the user experience, stay abreast with modern software development techniques, tools to meet launch deadlines.
• Designs, implements, and maintains efficient, reliable, and reusable power system and control strategies for power management products.
• Analyzes models in Power system development environment and proposes innovative solutions for control algorithm running on edge or cloud.
• Develops and verification for power system test plans with wiki page on development environment.
• Apply the modeling process in the design of controllers and development techniques for improvement of distributed energy management systems.
• Ready to write power system and control system tests plan for verification and validation.
• Participates in the investigation of problems by gathering enough information to find the root causes and fix them in real time modeling environment.
• Ready for technical collaboration or partnership with Eaton internal stakeholders.
• Participates in all stages of the development cycle and ready for understanding the concepts of operation.
• Ability to learn the power system and control system technologies used in distributed energy management products.
Qualifications:
Required: University degree in relevant technical from an accredited institution.
Preferred: University degree in electrical or Electronics engineering from an accredited institution.
Minimum experience of 5 years in Power and Control System products.
Skills:
• Experience utilizing best practices in Power and control engineering.
• Knowledge of Microgrid and grid operations are preferable.
• Knowledge of Power system and power electronics modeling and controlling tools and languages (Typhoon/RTDS/OPAL-RT/Python/ MATLAB & Simulink/ C/C++/ script, etc. any one) must.
• Strong learning, reviewing and debugging skills.
• Strong in Power & Control System and Power Electronics domain.
• Proficient understanding of issue and Project Tracking software (JIRA, Azure, TFS, etc.).
Excellent verbal and written English skills in relation to technical documentation required.
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Ability to understand the intricate technical details of how a Distributed Energy Resources (DER) and their microgrid product functions.
Ability to learn and interact with several different organizational levels and geographical locations to solicit information and translate into meaningful technology readiness level.
Highly motivated and self-driven, ability to work on projects alone or with team. Uses judgment, creativity, and sound technical knowledge to generate novel efficient and robust power and control system for grid intelligence.
