About You and This Role:
You as the piping engineer , will serve as an SME for the code design and stress analysis of all piping systems and components, lead efforts in the creation of piping specifications and testing requirements, complying to all governing design codes and Dow work processes, thereby ensuring safe operations of our plants.
You should be proficient in use of International / National codes and Standards related to piping engineering. You will be responsible for providing technical support to capital and expense projects from Project Definition through Detailed Design to Construction. You will also act as Piping Subject Matter Expert assisting Maintenance and Operations with troubleshooting piping related issues.
Responsibilities:
Provide engineering design support to both internal project teams and external stake holders.
Expertise in Pipe stress analysis for complex piping systems
Carry out design calculations for new specifications or non-standard piping components.
Prepare piping material specifications and valve material specification as applicable for projects.
Process requests for changes and variances to material specifications by way of required calculations and sound engineering judgement.
Develop piping design details and reviewing and approving detail drawings.
Review line lists to ensure proper spec selection, P/T check and test classification.
Represent Dow in a professional manner with vendors, contractors and service providers.
Work to resolve overall constructability, operability and maintainability issues.
Work with approved manufacturers and suppliers as necessary to resolve issues.
Respond to site requests and queries and work with site operations teams to trouble shoot and resolve technical issues.
Ensure that environmental, Safety and Loss Prevention Principles are used in design and imbedded into our Global Piping Work Process.
Ensure that Dow’s designs consistently comply with applicable industry codes, standards, Dow’s Most Effective Technology (MET) and Dow’s global practices and specifications.
Participate as a member/ leader on Dow’s global technical networks and contributing to continuous innovation and improvements in technology in areas of piping design.
Serve as the lead for a group of piping stress and materials engineers with accountability for coaching and training less experienced engineers.
Required qualifications:
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering is required.
A minimum of 7 years' experience in major oil/gas projects in the capacity of Piping Material and Specification Engineer or Pipe stress Engineer is required.
Must have the ability to work comfortably and safely at elevated heights. Candidates must be familiar with, or willing to undergo training in, the proper usage and maintenance of safety equipment to ensure safe movement and operations at heights
Must be fully knowledgeable about National & International codes and standards for Piping design.
A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Preferred skills:
Preferred degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Preferred 15 years of experience in major oil/gas projects in the capacity of Piping Material and Specification Engineer or Pipe stress Engineering.
Licensed P. Eng. registered in Alberta/ Ontario/ Saskatchewan.
