About Senior PCBA Manufacturing Engineer, Project Kuiper

  Description

  Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband internet connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

  Key job responsibilities

  • Work with the Design Engineering team to identify and escalate manufacturing challenges early in product development by enforcing DFM, DFA and DFS principles

  • Define manufacturing readiness requirements and lead key milestone reviews to ensure all stakeholder deliverables are complete to enable operational excellence and efficiency.

  • Investigate and develop new manufacturing technology and methodologies to enhance product quality, reliability, and performance.

  • Drive closure of all operational issues during pre-production builds. Work within Operations, Supply Chain, and Engineering to implement and optimize manufacturing yields for production ramp.

  • Investigate failures in production, test, and integration. Identify and mitigate underlying root causes to prevent reoccurrence and foster continuous improvement.

  • Conduct regular build quality reviews to ensure that design intent is achieved. Identify opportunities for risk reduction, simplification, and manufacturing process improvements.

  • Deliver manufacturing processes capabilities including equipment capability, quality controls, materials characterization, and workmanship standards

  • Actively monitor the success of products and processes through production ramp. Provide regular status reports of PCBAs progress from design to production.

  • Contain suspect or known non-conforming materials and assemblies. Provide direction to contract manufacturing, suppliers, and engineers to manage quarantine and rework activities.

  Export Control Requirement:

  Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

  A day in the life

  Come solve the difficult and rewarding engineering challenges in developing a highly reliable, power efficient, performant, low-cost satellite bus and payload. As a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer, you will work across design engineering, supply-chain, quality, and our manufacturing partners to drive Project Kuiper electrical sub-system and PCBA manufacturing and delivery. You must have the ability to dive deep on the details to identify, understand and solve difficult technical problems and also utilize a system level approach to prioritize issues for whole program. You use data to drive manufacturability, reliability, and quality objectives in design and development teams.

  About the team

  The Design and Manufacturing Engineering team develops, designs, and delivers all electrical sub-systems and PCBA designs for the Kuiper satellite avionic systems, communication systems, ground stations, and customer terminals. This is an inclusive, inter-disciplinary team that is committed to performance, quality, & reliability. Your breadth of exposure will be immense as you collaborate with other core groups, guiding the hardware from design to production and operation.

  Redmond, WA, USA

  Basic Qualifications

  Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Manufacturing/Mechanical/Aerospace/Industrial/Electrical) or related discipline, or equivalent experience.

  5+ years of experience in PCBA/PCB supply chain, manufacturing, or engineering.

  Experience in board assembly process and equipment (for example: Stencil print, SPI, pick & place, reflow, AOI, ICT, x-ray inspection).

  Experience leading DFX reviews to deliver design manufacturability, testability, quality, and reliability.

  Preferred Qualifications

  Master’s Degree in Engineering (Manufacturing/Mechanical/Aerospace/Industrial/Electrical) or related discipline, or equivalent experience.

  7+ years of experience in PCBA/PCB supply chain, manufacturing or engineering.

  5+ years’ experience with industry standard PLM and DFX systems, Mentor/Valor preferred.

  Experience performing Design and Process Failure Modes and Effects Analyses.

  Experience with IPC standards for PCB, PCBA, and RFPC fabrication, assembly, and test.

  Experience in Polymeric application, including conformal coating, staking and underfill.

  Experience in solder alloys including leaded and lead free as well as next gen low temp alloys.

  Experience with flying probe test systems and DFT

  Knowledge of quality tools such as Lean principles, Six Sigma, root cause analysis and corrective action, advanced product quality planning (APQP), metrology, process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA), control plans, and various problem-solving approaches.

  Experience providing hands-on experimental design and execution (Statistical analysis and DOE).

  Experience working independently and ensuring timely and accurate communication with contract manufacturers, suppliers, and 3rd party test and failure analysis partners.

  Ability to lead small teams in root-causing technical product manufacturability and process problems and drive implementation of solutions.

  Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, enthusiasm for the team’s spirit of innovation and mission of improving manufacturability, quality, and reliability in cutting-edge technology.

  Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
