Job Description
Thermo Fisher's Analytical Instruments Group (AIG) provides sophisticated technologies to analyze virtually any sample type including proteins and their structure, inorganic materials at atomic resolution, and chemicals and their composition. Our mass spectrometry, electron microscopy and spectroscopic technologies have been crucial in advancing industrial processes such as semiconductor and lithium ion battery manufacturing as well as for answering foundational questions in the life sciences.
Digital technologies play a key role in our development of next-generation analytical instruments, and protecting our significant investment in these technologies is an integral part of the company's business strategy. We're looking for a colleague with an innovative mindset, a strong technical background, and proven skills in building and coordinating a large and growing portfolio of patents assets! You will be joining a committed IP team that prides itself on delivering strong patents and thoughtful counseling solutions.

Key Responsibilities
Preparing and prosecuting high-quality, commercially-relevant patent applications covering digital technologiesWorking with partners to build competitive intelligence around digital technologies, including supporting patentability and freedom-to-operate investigationsGrowing the ideation infrastructure in technical teams to enhance the flow of ideas into the patenting pipelineCommunicating risks, opportunities, and insights to technical teams and leadership
Required Experience and Skills
Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office with 5+ years drafting and prosecuting high-value patents with a track record of success.Engineering or scientific bachelor's degree in a technical field related to digital technologies, such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics/Statistics, Physics, or a related field (an advanced degree is a plus)Proven ability to successfully prepare and prosecute patent applications for digital innovationsTechnical background in machine learning, data analytics, statistics, software development, optimization, or computational science is a plus
