Job Summary
The Senior Operational Accountant will play a key support role in the finance and accounting teams. Under minimum supervision, applies principles of accounting and financial analysis to produce financial information and reports. Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare, document, and record business transactions as appropriate. Duties include compilation of financial data and KPIs from multiple sources and subsequent analysis of that data to produce business information used to support and drive decisions.
Required Education / Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential is preferred
Primary Responsibilities & Scope
Preparation and summary of routine operational, sales and supply information (i.e., weekly sales numbers, margin analysis, customer analysis, weekly KPIs of operations)
Billing and confirmation for invoicing
Assist in daily settlements process
Secondary cost reconciliation
Perform month end duties that include inventory reconciliations, weighted average cost calculations, etc.
Prepare and record journal entries
Prepare monthly account reconciliations and participate in monthly balance sheet review
Provide analytical, reporting, and project support to senior management
Identify, implement, and support process improvements to gain efficiencies and effectiveness of accounting practices
Possess a passion for working in high paced environment with exposure to finance and operational business leaders
Survey operations to ascertain accounting requirements and recommending, developing, and maintaining solutions to business and financial issues
Any other duties as assigned
Required Experience
4 - 7 years experience in the accounting field
Experience utilizing ERP or accounting software
Experience utilizing ETRM (Endur, ICTS, etc.) software is preferred
Ability to problem solve and communicate effectively
Must be detailed oriented
Experience in Excel, intermediate level a plus
Experience utilizing T4 software is a plus
Knowledgeable of accounting principles
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Strong organizational skills
Ability to work independently, within a team environment, and communicate effectively with employees and clients at all levels
Strong initiative and ability to analyze, question and summarize data for decision making
Excellent verbal and written skills
Direct experience in trading industry, particularly refined products, is preferred
