Senior Composite Material and Manufacturing Engineer/Scientist
Primary Role: Spearhead value engineering projects and new product development within fiber glass business unit. Research, develop new material and manufacturing technologies to drive the productivity and quality improvement. Lead material development in other business units as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Research and select alternative composite material and processes for fiber glass pool structural applications.
Develop composite manufacturing technologies to improve productivity, manufacturing quality and product quality.
Identify, define and develop leading technology to be ahead of competitors.
Lead material characterization, testing and material specification development.
Develop predictive protocol, define correlation of material and manufacturing process with product failure mode and life span.
Drive experimental design and alternative process to reduce manufacturing and product cost.
Scale up the laboratory prototyping to production at all manufacturing facilities.
Interface with manufacturing engineering and production technician to improve process, troubleshoot issues and facilitate operations across all manufacturing plants.
Coordinate with supplier, external and in house test labs and maintain communication with stake holders.
Support other business units for material selection, evaluation, and development.
Identify cost reduction opportunities in design, material and manufacturing process.
Perform other duties as needed.
Qualifications:
MS’s degree in composite material science, polymer engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry or relevant major, and 5+ years of experience in related field.
Broad knowledge and experience with glass fiber reinforced composite material characterization and mechanical characterization, resin system and chemistry, additive technology and process.
Knowledge of fiberglass/epoxy composite material, damage mechanics, and manufacturing processes.
A strong commitment to accountability, collaboration and execution.
A desire to establish and foster strong cross functional relationships across the company.
Be team player, have effective written/oral communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
Leadership to elevate risks and overcome roadblocks.
Ability to work in fast-paced environment and manufacturing setting.
Strong computer skills, including Outlook, Word, and Excel (including spreadsheets/databases).
Up to 20% overnight travel can be expected.
Bilingual (Spanish and English) - Preferred
