The role of the Head of Operations has responsibility for coordination of employees and resources as well as ensuring smooth running of all operational delivery activities to make sure that goods are packaged and delivered as intended, cost-efficiently and on time in accordance with internal and external guidelines.
The Head of Operations collaborates with key partners across the matrix organization, mainly with HR, QA, PPI and Customer Service to enable profitable growth, improve quality and customer experience, and to increase employee engagement. The role also involves development of individual and interpersonal capability in the area of responsibility by training and mentoring individuals and teams through daily activities and structured events.
A day in the Life:
Responsible for a larger team of up to 100 employees in departments Pick&Pack Operations and Secondary Packaging, supported by Managers, Team Leaders and Senior Operators with professional responsibility
Ensuring that all distribution orders are processed and dispatched on time and to the agreed quality standards
Working closely with Production Planner to ensure that planned production steps can begin according to schedule. This includes ensuring that equipment, materials and approved documentation are available and delivered on the agreed date
Review and sign off of production documentation
Communication of all basic operational requirements with relevant departments involved
Ensuring that all tasks are organised and prioritization is adapted to the circumstances; in particular, ensuring immediate response and resolution of critical and urgent situations
Interdisciplinary partnership, in particular to ensure compliance with occupational safety, quality of work performance, quality of deliveries and costs in the area of responsibility
Independent and continuous review of existing processes by analyzing and identifying improvement opportunities and communication of inefficient processes
Participation in projects as a lead/work with functional teams to streamline processes to improve the customer experience, enable profitable growth and become more efficient.
Deputy of the Managing Director in case of absence
Keys to Success:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar academic field
8 years + experience in leading operations and/or delivering a variety of capital or expense projects.
Leadership roles in fields such as operations, commercial or quality management.
Broad knowledge of multi-functional, multi-site, global interpersonal processes and financial business methods (S&OP, Customer Experience, Strategic Sourcing, etc.).
GMP/Pharma experience
Knowledge of and proven application of continuous improvement mentality.
Knowledge of Pharmaceutical product development, plant operations and maintenance as well as current industry operations trends
Shown leadership to lead a successful team of professionals and shopfloor.
Outstanding decision-making skills and strengths in organisational change.
Ability to analyze problems and to define solutions according to operational excellence approach.
Proficient oral and written communication skills along with the ability to deliver project status and funding presentations in a concise, effective, and organized manner.
Ability to travel to other geographies and sites up to 50%.
