  Job Description

  The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) takes great pride in connecting the Commonwealth's residents and communities. Powered by a growing data-analytics discipline - and working in conjunction with municipalities, public agencies, and the private sector - we're finding new ways to improve the Bay State's transportation infrastructure.

  MassDOT is responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating transportation policies and projects for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and to efficiently plan, design, construct, and maintain a safe statewide transportation system which effectively meets the transportation needs of the Commonwealth. MassDOT' s divisions include Highway, Aeronautics, Registry of Motor Vehicles, Rail & Transit, and Planning & Enterprise Services. We are an organization of over 4,000 and growing.

  MassDOT is seeking to hire a highly motivated and experienced individual to join the team as a Senior Manager of Server Operations. This individual willdocument and maintain operational procedures and ensure proper change controls procedures are followed consistently. The incumbent will report directly to the Senior Director of Infrastructure.

  The primary work location for this role will be at 10 Park Plaza, Boston, Massachusetts 02118. The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 4:00PM. This position would be expected to follow a hybrid model of reporting to work that combines in-office workdays and work from home days as needed. Occasional on-call and weekend support may be required.

  Duties and Responsibilities

  Oversee the day-to-day operations of the team, responsible for servers, storage, virtualization, system patching and security, AWS, Azure, and Active Directory, including metric reporting and daily review of service delivery and availability.Establish priorities and schedules for resources to meet needs of the business and reflect organization priorities.Communicate team needs and concerns to senior management and ensure alignment between team and management.Manage performance and professional development of staff, including performance reviews, feedback and coaching, and training to maximize team performance.Clearly define team member roles and responsibilities and eliminate single points of failure within the team through cross training and knowledge sharing.Understand and respect the collective bargaining agreements (CBA's).Ensure environments are compliant with all MassDOT and EOTSS security directives.Participate in audit compliance efforts (e.g., PCI) and ensure that remediation is completed in a timely manner.Ensure that all servers and storage meet agreed backup and disaster recovery requirements and that all regularly scheduled tests of backup and recovery processes include verification of the results.Assure that all environments (development, test and production), processes, and procedures are fully documented.Track and report on metrics to show compliance with established service level agreements (SLA's).Ensure systems are supported in an efficient manner ensuring minimal disruptions and downtime in line with agreed SLAs while prioritizing team's response to incidents and manage performance to agreed SLAs.Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation to improve performance.Stay abreast of emerging technologies and presents solutions for improvement opportunities to the Sr IT management team.Oversee small to mid-size projects, including the creation of detail project plans and execution of the plans to the successful completion of the project, on time and on budget.Facilitate communication upward and across project teams including project status, cost information, justifications for variances and technical information (architecture, design, and implementation objectives).Participate in budgeting and forecasting activities.Approve timecards, vacation requests, and conduct performance reviews.

  Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  At least ten (10) years of experience working in a professional IT setting.Two (2) + years of acting as a team lead/manager preferred, but not required.Knowledge of server and storage hardware including blades and standalone servers.Knowledge of Windows and Linux based environments, including virtual environments such as VMWare, AWS, and Azure.Broad understanding of IT infrastructure and application stack across the data center, including security, networking, application platforms, and databases.Experience in monitoring servers and applications.Extensive knowledge of clusters and DR (disaster recovery) environments.A track record in automation of operations tasks.Excellent communication skills and proven record of ensuring proper documentation is completed and kept up to date.Must have experience working with cross-functional teams, be process oriented, and have strong organization skills.Proven track record of execution, implementation, and maintenance of IT strategic initiatives.Proven leadership, team building and conflict resolution capability as well as problem resolution experience. Ability to provide 24 hour/7 days a week on-call support.Must exhibit a positive approach and the ability think critically and work efficiently as team lead.Ability to work and collaborate directly with internal stakeholders, other agencies. and third parties.

  Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  Strong knowledge of cloud technologies including AWS and Azure.Experience with using and the development of CyberArk PAM.Understanding of software development lifecycles (SDLC).Experience implementing "Infrastructure-as-Code" tools such as Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Terraform.

  Education and Certifications:

  Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, or other related field, or equivalent work experience. ITIL Certification is a plus, but not required.Current Microsoft MCSE 2016 or later preferred.
