Job Description About This Role
Biogen is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Manager for the Clinical Services Category who is accountable for category management, sourcing, supplier management, stakeholder engagement for all Biogen’s spend in the areas of Clinical Trial Management Services, Clinical Research Organizations (CRO), Regulatory & Compliance, and Pharmacovigilance. The Senior Category Manager’s primary focus will be helping to establish a best practices Category Management and Strategic Sourcing program for clinical services actively supporting the development a global network of preferred and strategic suppliers. The role will be responsible for delivering the optimum balance of value delivery (cost, performance, quality, risk) from Biogen’s suppliers. Strategic vision and tactical execution are key to success in this role.
The Senior Category Manager will be partnering and advising leadership from a customer standpoint, by aggregating the voice of the internal customer. The success of this role is dependent on the candidate’s ability to build strong relationships with R&D business stakeholders to obtain consensus and drive decisions to realize value from the projects and spend in these areas. This individual will champion ongoing improvements, identify and lead or contribute to Continuous Improvement initiatives in partnership with stakeholders. This role reports to the Director, Procurement- Global Clinical Services
What You Will Do
Category Management:
• Develop and execute clear category management, global sourcing events and procurement strategies for clinical services.
• Lead or participate in cross-functional teams, often comprised of regional and global business and Procurement representatives, to ensure effective development and delivery of sourcing strategies globally to drive efficiency, leverage, and savings.
• Lead cross-functional teams using spend data analytics, market research and cost modeling to identify and leverage high value opportunities that deliver innovative and sustainable value, operational efficiencies, and risk mitigation to the business.
• Quantify and report savings/value of category contracts and spend and related supplier relationships; understand and measure compliance with, and utilization of, global agreements and relationships.
• Partner with key stakeholders to ensure effective alignment that supports business requirements.
• Continually evaluate and monitor market conditions and adjust sourcing strategies accordingly.
Sourcing:
• Develops strategy for catalogs, Guided Buying, and Sourcing playbook development.
• Provide sourcing leadership and support for all phases of the sourcing process, including RFx identification, start up, data collection and analysis and recommendation preparation, implementation, supplier management, negotiations, and contracting strategies to achieve category goals.
• Ensure efficiency of events through appropriate use of buying channels, catalogs, and RFx events and champions ongoing continuous improvement.
• Partner with category analysts and procurement operations to ensure a data-driven approach to category management and high-quality analytics to deliver insights, capabilities, and results.
Supplier Management:
• Responsible for supplier management activities, ensuring the appropriate level of oversight, direction and development based on the defined criteria.
• Responsible for executing supplier evaluations including understanding capabilities and risk prior to and during the relationship.
Stakeholder Management:
• Primary Procurement Point of Contact for Clinical Trial Support Services, Clinical Research Organization (CRO), Regulatory & Compliance, and Pharmacovigilance Services.
• Partner with the business stakeholders at appropriate levels for the respective category and facilitates resolution and communication of all other procurement activities.
Qualifications Who You Are
You are an experienced procurement professional with expertise in clinical research procurement, sourcing, contracts, and negotiations. You enjoy collaborating with diverse subject-matter experts to develop process improvements and create category strategies.
• 7-10 years of experience including accomplished in Procurement (3years+) and has subject expertise for Clinical Research Procurement (2years+)
• Experience with negotiation of contract and commercial terms and conditions
• Strong leadership and collaboration skills with ability to build effective relationships and influence peers and key stakeholders.
• Excellent interpersonal, motivational and leadership skills
• Possess a strategic and innovative mindset
• Communicates and influences effectively, with the ability to motivate and influence others inside and outside of own function.
• Ability to deal with change and ambiguity effectively
• Strong project management skills with ability to plan tasks, assign resources, manage progress, remove barriers, manage change, resolve conflict, build consensus, and motivate team members across multiple projects concurrently (2years+)
• Ability to prioritize, organize and multitask in a flexible, fast-paced, and dynamic environment
• Process and cost improvement skills
• C.P.M./CPSM certification desirable
Education:
• Undergraduate degree in a related field required
