General Description
This position provides Linux expertise to the Program and Budget Enterprise System (PBES) at the Pentagon in Washington DC. This program includes providing software development, architecture, and development standards expertise as well as evaluating new technologies and leading teams through the design, development, test, and deployment of software updated to existing HR systems. Specifically, the successful candidate will lead/assist with the configuration and daily operation of various Linux servers that host various production, software development, and testing activities. In addition, the successful candidate will lead the effort to plan and upgrade the current version of RedHat Linux to Version 7.
Duties and responsibilities
Perform daily administration of production and development servers in a RedHat Linux environment.
Develop and implement IT policies and procedures.
Comply with standard operating procedures.
Perform software installations, patches, and upgrades.
Perform day-to-day operational maintenance, support, and upgrades for operating systems, workstations, and servers.
Monitor system performance, security, data integrity, and optimal use of resources.
Perform diagnosis and resolution of problems.
Ensure data/media recoverability by performing system backups and database archive operations.
Specialized Knowledge
The successful candidate will have knowledge and expertise in the following areas:
Agile software development techniques and life cycles.
Experienced in interfacing with technical, functional, and senior system program personnel.
Experience studying and analyzing systems or process problems and needs of selected programs to determine how to best solve the problems and accomplish improvements in existing capabilities and/or systems integration.
Experience in the upgrade of RedHat Linux.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Engineering, Mathematics, or Business.
Professional Certifications
RedHat Linux Certified Systems Administrator preferred by not required.
Clearance
Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance.
Experience
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
Citizenship
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Skills and Abilities
Strong Problem Solving, producing positive outcomes and Return on Investment (ROI) for the Federal government.
Other Characteristics (e.g., Personal or Language)
Excellent oral, written, and communication in English. Must be able to work in a team environment with members that include personnel from other companies, Government program management and administrative personnel, and technical staff members.
