Primary Duties: * Serves as lead accountant managing most complex, high-volume University of Maryland Baltimore Foundation (UMBF) disbursement operations. * Plans, develops, and implements strategies to optimize accounting technology. Serves as subject matter expert for UMBF accounting system upgrades and changes, provides back up duties for others within department. * Ensures compliance of disbursements with all relevant reporting and tax compliance regulations and deadlines, including preparation of 1099. * Reviews and monitors expenditures and endowment spending. * Proactively plans and organizes assignment and reporting of work. * Develops policies, processes, and procedures to ensure consistent operations. Models and tests various accounting scenarios to demonstrate impact of proposed policies and plans. * Responsible for training/familiarization of UMBF disbursement processing guidelines and procedure with new staff throughout campus. * Creates a cohesive work team that works collaboratively to achieve unit’s goals. * Oversees the training of team member(s) and continually reviews strengths and weaknesses of staff to maintain a well-trained, highly involved, and motivated team. * Supports management with special projects and external audit requests. * Performs other duties as assigned. Education:Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field. Experience:Five (5) years of experience in financial or management accounting, auditing, assessment of internal controls, or financial analysis is required preferably in accounts payable.
