Position Overview
Autodesk is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Director of Technology and Product Communications to lead our strategic communication efforts in the realm of technology and product-related stories. This critical role will report to the Vice President of Global Communications and will be responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies that highlight Autodesk's technology innovations, product releases, and thought leadership in the industry. This executive will be a strong people leader who can cultivate and grow the internal team while managing relationships with key executive stakeholders. To succeed, you'll be proactive, organized, professionally mature and persuasive with the ability to influence and thrive in a matrixed environment.
Responsibilities
Communication Expertise: 15+ years of communications experience at major corporations. You are creative, have excellent writing skills, and have experience working with C-suite executives and top-tier media.Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute communication strategies that align with Autodesk's business objectives and support the company's mission.Team Leadership: Strong people leader with a consistent track record of building and developing high-performing teams. Manage a team of 10+ communication professionals, providing mentorship, guidance, and fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.Technology and Product Messaging: Craft compelling narratives and messaging that convey Autodesk's leadership in technology and product innovation, addressing both internal and external audiences. Help technical teams translate their expertise for a broader audience.Media Relations: Experience specifically with business and technology press. Build and maintain strong relationships with key media outlets, journalists, and industry influencers to secure positive coverage and thought leadership opportunities.Product Launches: Oversee the communication plans for new product launches, coordinating with product teams, marketing, and PR to ensure successful product introductions.Executive Communication: Work closely with Autodesk executives and the cross-functional Communications team to prepare them for media interactions, speaking engagements, and thought leadership activities.Crisis Communication: Develop and implement crisis communication plans related to technology and product issues, ensuring transparency and proactive response.Content Creation: Oversee the creation of engaging content, including press releases, blog posts, videos, and other assets that showcase Autodesk's technological advancements and product developments.Measurement and Analytics: Establish KPIs and metrics to measure the effectiveness of communication strategies and adjust them as needed to achieve desired outcomes.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or a related field; Master's degree a bonusProven experience in technology and product communication, ideally within the global software or technology industriesStrong leadership and team management skillsExcellent written and verbal communication abilitiesExceptional media relations and crisis communication expertiseAbility to work collaboratively with cross-functional teamsUnderstanding of industry trends and emerging technologiesStrong strategic thinking and problem-solving skillsExperience leading teams of 10+ people including career development and performance management

Salary transparency
Salary is one part of Autodesk's competitive compensation package. For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $193,000 and $312,290. Offers are based on the candidate's experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, we also have a significant emphasis on annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
