Job Summary
The Senior Director of Labor Relations is responsible for overseeing the company's labor relations strategy and will work with Store Operations, Supply Chain Leadership, key HR partners and the Labor Relations team to create and implement that strategy. The responsibilities include strategic planning for contract negotiations in areas where there are existing unions and preventative measures in other areas; ensuring that contract requirements are implemented and followed; defend the company in grievances and arbitrations; and developing/implementing the proactive and reactive strategies to defend against union expansion and organizing drives.
Job ResponsibilitiesEnvisions, directs, and is accountable for the consistent handling and the timely response and resolution of Labor Relations support for managers and team members.Provides recommendations for strategy/direction and leadership for the Labor Relations function.Oversees and executes the long-term operations strategy, methodology, and management of Labor Relations matters.Responsible for strategic planning for contract negotiations. May also conduct negotiations.Accountable for ensuring that all critical labor relations matters are reported efficiently and effectively, while ensuring that work is delivered on time with the highest quality.Ensures service standards of the Labor Relations team are monitored and levels are addressed consistently and fairly by establishing performance standards, along with team member coaching, and training to achieve appropriate levels of performance.Monitors team member workload and performance. Ensures proper assignment of labor relations matters and workload balancing to deliver effective support to the business.Implements operational practices and reports, including auditing the adherence to the labor relations scorecard process with Field HR, ad hoc reporting of labor relations activity and regional reporting to update leaders on labor relations matters.Collaborates with the business units that it serves in order to achieve corporate objectives and mitigate unnecessary business risk.Research legal principles and precedents, engage and manage outside counsel, draft legal documents, gather relevant case related information using multiple sources and methods, provide work guidance to other professional, paraprofessional and support staff in developing solutions to problems presented.Collaborates and engages Employment Law, Loss Prevention, Compliance, HR Business Partners, Field Resources, HR Centers of Excellence, Employee Relations, and other critical functional teams and leaders as needed to address vulnerability and other labor relations concerns.Provides leadership, direction, coaching, feedback and, where appropriate, discipline to and through subordinate team members.Coaches and mentor's managers, leaders, and human resource managers and directors on labor relations, enhancing the work environment, and maintaining healthy relationships with and among employees and their representatives.Understands labor relations matters at local and federal levels; monitors grievance trends for the organization; and develops approaches and solutions to pro-actively address negative trends and coach leaders to address labor relations matters.Collaborates with the business units that it serves in order to further company goals.Ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations relative to union management labor relations and contracts.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of Experience in labor relations matters (during an organizing campaign and/or negotiating collective bargaining agreements) OR High School/GED and at least 11 years of Experience in labor relations matters (during an organizing campaign and/or negotiating collective bargaining agreem ents)Experience providing guidance to management and researching, investigating, and responding to employee issues and concerns.Experience evaluating information to determine compliance with company standards, policies, labor laws, and regulations.Thorough understanding of NLRA, progressive discipline process, grievance and arbitration process, negotiating strategy, strike situations and communication requirements.Experience in representing companies before the National Labor Relations Board and in arbitration hearings.Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.Excellent skills involving communication and negotiation (both written and oral)Comprehensive knowledge of labor relations rules and regulations at the federal and state level.At least 5 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.At least 5 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional team leadership.Willing to travel up to/at least 50% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).
Preferred Qualifications
JD or Masters Degree in Labor RelationsFamiliarity with costing a labor contractExperience in the retail and / or health care industry.Experience presenting trend and performance reports to appropriate stakeholders, executives and senior management.
Salary Range$180500 - $306700 / Salaried
