  Job Summary:

  This position serves as the functional lead for Sysco's U.S. Foodservice Operations business including all companies physically located in North America. The position supports compliance activities in the areas of Environmental, Health and Safety & Security compliance, ensuring alignment with business strategies and operational requirements. This role is responsible for developing and implementing EHS strategies that align with the enterprise wide EHS strategy and framework to Sysco's operations in North America. This position will partner with leaders throughout the enterprise to build enhanced capabilities in the EHS function. The position also helps drive the prioritization of regulatory compliance (workplace safety, transportation, environmental), data-driven continuous performance improvement, and integration of EHS performance objectives into standard work processes and business objectives.

  Duties and Responsibilities:

  Monitor, interpret, and assess existing or emerging EHS laws, regulations, regulatory policy, internal protocols, and industry practices to determine operational and business impacts and develop, integrate, and execute global EHS strategies, policies, programs, procedures, standards, training, processes, and actions throughout North AmericaPartner with leaders throughout the organization to understand business needs and appropriately balance enterprise and local prioritiesImplement effective programs, procedures, processes and systems to ensure regulatory compliance and protect associates, communities and the environmentAssist in the development and ensure effective implementation, communication, and data-based performance improvement plans of enterprise EHS KPIsIdentify and engage cross functional stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and integration of health, safety, and environment into business decision makingLeverage a team of subject matter experts in environmental/health/safety, occupational health, and the support transportation compliance disciplines to create the EHS tools and processes needed to support EHS initiatives for North American businessesManage the impact of EHS incidents to determine root cause and implement corrective actions and leverage lessons learned from EHS incidents to continuously improve EHS programsPartner and collaborate with the business and support functions to influence and manage EHS resources, balancing business and operational needsWork in conjunction with legal personnel to oversee regulatory agency and external stakeholder EHS activities, including reporting, visits, or inspectionsSupport EHS integration process for new sites/acquisitionsUnderstands both the economic and cultural value that a safe organization with minimal environmental impact brings to an organization.Drive Environmental, Health and Safety performance by providing necessary resources and hold team accountable to complying with EHS programs, policies, and requirements.Enable, champion and embrace an inclusive cultureDevelop and support high performing talent through hiring, scheduling, performance coaching, and career management practicesFacilitate establishment of clear performance goals; Ensure that performance goals adapt to changing business demands; Identify and manage non-performers in a fair and timely way; Identify and reward top performance; links pay and performance through base, incentive, and recognition programsPresent oneself in a manner that demonstrates executive maturity, professionalism, trust, confidence, and integrity.Communicates broadly and frequently the company's vision, direction, goals, performance against plan, changes, and expectations through participation in department meetings, one-on-one meetings, and informal conversations with associates and business leadersDrive a customer-focused approach within the EHS team to ensure urgency in supporting key stakeholders with technical expertiseFrequently partner with leaders across the organization to ensure that a "voice of the customer" approach is takenPerform other duties as assigned.

  Nature and Scope

  Financial Impact: outline any responsibility for financial decisions, developing and controlling a profit plan, as well as direct control of money/funds.

  Ability to influence leadership by creating return on investment for both direct and indirect costs of reducing risks and incidents, including claim cost and premium reductions, improved retention/decreased turnover, reduced asset (racking, vehicle, etc.) damage, increased productivity, and employee cultureA vision to create a company that is the safe and logical choice for both workers and customers

  Creative Thinking: describe the level of innovation and/or creativity skills required, ability to modify/improve processes and procedures or to develop new ideas, methodologies, techniques, policies and practices.

  Leadership: responsibilities to manage, supervise, guide, lead or mentor other associates, the number of direct reports and their level is relevant (are the direct reports managers).

  Experience leading and motivating cross-functional and diverse teams in both matrix and non-matrix organization.

  Customer Service: level of responsibility for customer service looking at the nature of service/interaction provided to the "customer" (e.g. internal, external, vendor...), the diversity and complexity communication.

  Ability to coordinate planning and collaboration with other business functions in a way that is mutually beneficial and drives continuous improvement.Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for diversity in a work environment including socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds as well as sexual orientations and disabilities.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact and influence effectively with all levels of management, employees, and customers.

  Physical Requirements & Working Conditions: describe the intensity, frequency and duration of the physical effort required. Exposure to undesirable working conditions including noise, temperature, lighting, equipment or amount of travel (in percentage).

  Undesirable conditions are limited, the incumbent is mostly in an office environment at a desk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.This position requires international travel (U.S. and Canada) up to 50% of the time.

  Sensory & Mental Efforts: describe the extent of multiple sensory demands such as frequency of repetitive tasks, level of auditory/visual concentration, frequency of interruptions, and the degree that pace is controlled by others.

  Repetitive tasks include operation of a laptop/computer or desk phone. Interruptions happen frequently but can be controlled.The incumbent has the opportunity/flexibility change posture and position for comfort. Pace of work can vary but within reason.

  POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  Experience: minimum level as well as preferred level of experience. Consider the level exposure to relevant work gained through practical and on-the-job training.

  10+ years' experience working within an EHS program, preferably in a large, multi- national companyStrong background in and knowledge of American and Canadian federal, state/provincial and local EHS requirements and industry standards/best practices (i.e. acts, regulations, codes, standards and case law).Demonstrated experience in driving change in a large, global, matrixed environmentExperience prioritizing and managing multiple projects concurrentlyProject management experienceExperience leading cross-functional teams. Experience effectively leading teams with both direct and indirect reporting relationshipsExperience establishing and maintaining multiple cross-functional working relationships with geographically dispersed individualsDemonstrated ability to develop a business case in support of EHS initiativeExperience communicating with and influencing leadershipExperience developing and implementing goals and strategies based on organization goals

  Education: minimum level as well as preferred level of education, certification or designation. Consider the knowledge of business, industry, management principles and technical disciplines gained through formal training.

  Bachelor's or master's degree in environmental, health, safety, business, or related scientific or engineering fieldCSP or CRSP designation or ability to attain designation within 1 year or hireOther designations such as CIH, ROH, CPE, CCPE, are greatly valued.

  Knowledge & Skill: list any other qualifications, including technical requirements of the role.
