We’re a dynamic and fast-growing team seeking extraordinary talent to join us and be part of the Retail Media team, a strategic priority business for Petco spanning across marketing, data, and cross-functional partnerships to drive results for our vendors and advertisers. We are looking for a versatile, hands-on, and highly motivated Content & Messaging Maven to play a vital role in shaping the overall content direction for Petco Retail Media.
As the Senior Content Strategist, you will play a crucial role in the advertising campaign development process, planning, creating, and managing all content strategically to achieve organizational objectives and deliver a positive user experience across various touchpoints, channels, and platforms for both internal cross-functional stakeholders and external partner brands. By contributing to and enhancing the RM brand identity, you will ensure that content serves as a valuable and strategic asset, helping advertisers within the Retail Media network be successful.
You will partner with Creative, Marketing, Merchandising, Data Analytics, and Product teams to craft compelling narratives that captivate our target audience and meet both internal and external/vendor campaign objectives. This role has high cross-functional visibility, with a lot of responsibility, and reports to the Senior Director of Retail Media Creative.
Responsibilities:
BRAND VOICE AND TONE — Define and maintain the Retail Media brand voice and tone across all content, ensuring consistency in messaging and brand representation
AUDIENCE & MARKET RESEARCH — Understand campaign objectives, key messages, and other essential information; Conduct research on the product or service, target audience, market trends, and competitors to gain insights that will inform content decisions and messaging strategies.
CONTENT DEVELOPMENT — Partner with internal cross-functional teams and external partner brands within the Retail Media Network to develop, implement, and continuously evolve content strategies and messaging that reinforce business objectives and resonate effectively with target audiences across Offsite, Social, Owned, and CRM channels.
MESSAGING GUIDELINES — Work closely with the head of Retail Media Creative to outline key messaging elements and communication principles to ensure cohesive and unified messaging across various channels, campaigns, and touchpoints; Provide guidelines for all long- and short-form written content, from advertising and promotional messaging to product and online copy, social media content, email communications, and presentations.
MESSAGING DEVELOPMENT — Write compelling and persuasive campaign copy, including headlines, taglines, body copy, and scripts; Tailor messaging to suit various advertising channels, adapting it to fit the medium and engage the intended audience effectively (per messaging guidelines); Revise and refine copy based on feedback from stakeholders, clients, and team members.
CREATIVE ALIGNMENT — Collaborate with creative to brainstorm and craft unique and cohesive campaign concepts that align seamlessly with visual elements and adhere to brand guidelines.
UX INTEGRATION — Collaborate with UX/UI teams to ensure that content enhances the overall user experience and aligns with the design and functionality of digital platforms
TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION — Integrate content strategies with tech solutions, such as CMS and marketing automation tools, to optimize content creation and distribution
STAKEHOLDER COMMS — Communicate content strategies and initiatives effectively to clients and stakeholders at various levels within the organization, clearly articulating concept alignment to business and campaign objectives.
CONTENT GOVERNANCE — Develop and implement content governance frameworks to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance across all content produced
CONTENT CALENDAR — Manage the content calendar, ensuring a consistent and strategic flow of content. Work closely with our site operations team to coordinate and complement ad contentwith Petco placements.
METRICS & ANALYTICS — Leverage data and analytics to optimize creative copy & content for SEO, customer experience, and audience engagement. Track and measure the performance of content using relevant KPIs + provide regular reports with insights and recommendations for improvement.
TREND & INDUSTRY AWARENESS — Stay up to date with industry trends, content marketing best practices, emerging technologies and changes in the market or user behavior to continually adapt and refine content strategies to remain relevant.
INNOVATIVE CONTENT SOLUTIONS — Introduce innovative content solutions and approaches that differentiate the organization and keep it at the forefront of industry trends.
CRISIS COMMS PLANNING — Develop strategies for content in crisis communication scenarios and ensure consistency in messaging during challenging times
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, English, or a related field.
6+ years of experience in content marketing or a related role.
Strong writing and editing skills with an eye for detail and creativity.
Creative thinking and the ability to develop content that tells a compelling story.
Proficiency in SEO, content management systems, social media platforms and other content marketing tools and software.
Excellent research and analytical skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Effective time management and ability to deliver high-quality copy on schedule.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
