About Science Teaching Coach Position

  A Teaching Coach models and facilitates continuous improvement on the classroom and school levels. On many occasions, he/she challenges the status quo, asks questions and facilitates difficult conversations helping to shape the culture of the school and maintain academic rigor. As a catalyst for positive change, the Teaching Coach must motivate the teachers and encourage them to "step out of the box," reinforcing their learning with support. A Teaching Coach helps teachers retain what they learn through practice and helps teachers transfer/synthesize their learning by co-planning ways to use the information in new settings.

  Eligible Positions: Science at Propel Northside, Science at Propel Montour Middle School

  Term: Minimum of a 2-year commitment.

  Qualifications:

  Teaching experience with Propel curricular resources (5 years experience preferred )Consistent evaluations of effective/highly effectiveDemonstrates a sense of urgency to ensure that all scholars succeed.Growth mindset that exhibits the belief that all children can and will succeed.

  Expectations/Roles/Responsibilities:

  Teach 2 hours/day in one classroom/school for the full year. Support the development of high quality/effective instruction in schools, including observing and coaching educators to improve instructional planning, teaching practice, small-group instruction and the use of data, assessment, and instructional technology. Work with various teams (coaches, principals, teachers and the academic team) to facilitate analysis of data provided by diagnostics, summative assessments, and formative assessments. Serve as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve scholar achievement. Cultivate and support a culture of reflective practice between principals, teachers, and special education teachers.Collaboratively design data-driven intervention strategies and resources in alignment with MTSS. Contribute to the development systems and structures to improve teacher practice within schools. Facilitate and/or support professional development.Communicates and collaborates professionally, exhibiting Propel Network-wide Habits, with all stakeholders.Skills:Deep knowledge and understanding of Common Core Standards and PA Core Standards. Utilize standards understanding to make informed curricula decisions and recommendations.Innovative and creative dispositions balanced with strategic discipline and vision orientation.Excellence in time management, organization, multi-tasking, prioritization, and follow-through. Exceptional communicator who can recognize the needs of various stakeholders and problem solve effective solutions.Technology savvy for web-based instructional techniques and tools, computer proficiency, including Google Applications, and internet tools. Experience in analyzing data and using results to adjust curriculum and strategies to meet the needs of scholars. Multi-faceted, multi-skilled, resourceful, self-starter willing to do whatever it takes to help our scholars reach academic excellence.   Dates:

  220 SY Schedule; 2 paid days before August 9, 2023 7 days in the summer of 2024 (included in the pathway stipend)7 days in the summer of 2025 (included in the pathway stipend)

  Selection Process:

  All interested applicants must complete an application. All interested applicants will have a first round video interview. The Selection Committee will score each interview.The Selection Committee will review qualifications of each applicant.The Selection Committee will reach out for a second round in-person (live or via Google Meet) interview to qualified applicants. Final notification will be given not later than June 10, 2023.

  Selection Committee:

  The selection committee will include the Principals of the homebase school, Content Directors, Sr. Director of Academics with approval by the CEO/Superintendent.

  Example Schedule

  At the Homebase School/Classroom:

  Teaching Coach + Resident or TeacherFirst few weeks of school are co-planned and taught full day. The Teaching Coach supports resident/teacher with classroom preparations for set-up, routines/procedures, content planning, family communication and overall management. The Teaching Coach mentors, coaches, co-teaches/teaches until the resident/teacher has established relationships with scholars and developed strong classroom management.

  Coaching at the homebase school and other Propel schools is dictated by need in collaboration with the content director.

  Mileage reimbursement if traveling between schools.

  Attend one monthly Instructional Coaches' Network Workshop.

  No Coaching during State-wide testing weeks.

  Other Considerations:

  TCs will not be used as substitutes in any building. They will be required to teach in the homebase classroom for the 2 hours that is their obligated teaching time if the resident/teacher is absent.TCs work closely with content directors. The pathway rubric is completed by the content director. TCs that have a Level 2 Certification will be formally evaluated once by the Homebase School's principal. This will be completed in collaboration with the content director. TCs that currently hold a Level 1 Certification will be encouraged and supported with completing Level 2 Certification paperwork, otherwise they will need to receive the same evaluation processes that all Level 1 Certified teachers receive.
