Job purpose
The School Based Health Center Medical Coordinator serves as the administrative lead of the school based health center office and function as a key member of the health care team. As a team, it is our goal to provide high quality patient care and care coordination to meet the needs of patients, staff and consumers.
Duties and responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Director of School Based Health Center Operations, the SBHC Medical Coordinator is responsible for performing a variety of administrative duties to provide support in the daily functions of the assigned school. Typical duties include but are not limited to:
Greets patients and visitors while creating welcoming environment
Performs administrative and clerical duties
Provides outreach to support family and community engagement
Provides information, forms and notifies others of arrival of students and maintains smooth patient flow throughout the SBHC
Understands and determines the patient’s needs in an efficient and friendly manner
Schedules appointments, and follows up on reminders and no shows
Answers phones and takes messages as needed
Performs data entry, enters billing data and generates reports
Inventories, stocks and maintains office supplies and oversees maintenance at SBHC
Works with SBHC and school staff on education, events and activities
Prepares letters, flyers, memos etc.
Performs POCT testing, vital signs & finger sticks
Ensures patient confidentiality and provides patients with needed information
Liaise with director and clinical staff to identify best practices
Ensure compliance with current healthcare regulations, medical laws, and high ethical standards
Performs other necessary duties as required by the Fair Haven Community Health Care to achieve the goal of providing primary health care
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED is required. Associate’s degree preferred. A minimum of six months experience in a medical facility; Oral and written proficiency in English and Spanish is also required.
The selected candidate will be a medical assistant from an accredited program (diploma) or a certified medical assistant with a minimum of three (3) years of experience.
The coordinator must possess administrative, clerical, computer skills including Microsoft office software, basic medical terminology, customer service and excellent organizational communication skills. The dual role requires the ability to multi-task both administrative and clinical duties in a high paced environment
Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and the ability to travel independently to satellite offices with or without advanced notice.
