We have an immediate opening for a Safety Coordinator who will work out of our corporate headquarters in Maple Grove. The Safety Coordinator will plan, implement, coordinate and assesses accident, fire prevention, and occupational safety and health programs to help ensure Company operations are compliant with all applicable local, regional and federal safety regulations. This position will provide an opportunity to gain hands on experience within safety, and the heavy highway construction industry.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
Graduation from a four-year degree program in Occupational Safety and Health, or equivalent combinations of training and related experience.
1-5 years construction and/or industrial Safety experience (Heavy-Highway experience preferred).
Knowledge of all federal, state, local, and company regulations; to include knowledge of the OSHA Regulations' Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).
Excellent verbal/written communications and interpersonal skills are required.
Ability to build trust and confidence with project leadership and personnel, and influence change by providing comprehensive safety support and expertise.
Demonstrated ability to use office software programs including MS Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Be a positive, pro-active Safety presence and Leader in CSM Field Operations each and every day.
Conduct and document Safety inspections and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) on Project sites at frequent intervals:
Identify job hazards and near misses including work by subcontractors.
Inspect facilities, equipment and safety devices to identify and correct potential hazards.
Communicate audit/inspection and JSA findings to Project Leadership, assist in correcting deficiencies.
Attend and assist with Project Safety meetings including but not limited to:
Weekly Tool Box Talks
Daily Take 5 for Safety
Job site Safety committees
Pre-activity meetings
Maintain an adequate inventory of PPE to meet project requirements.
Assist Project Management in developing and maintaining project/site specific safety plans.
Audit Project Safety paperwork to ensure that documentation requirements are being met and work with Project Leadership to take corrective action if necessary.
Assist managers and supervisors in investigating and documenting all safety related incidents.
Recommend and award projects and field personnel for safety incentives.
Work with project leadership and Human Resources to take necessary corrective action when investigation findings warrant.
Assist Safety Manager with tracking and reporting safety metrics, including visual charts and progress reports to management, field leadership and field personnel to identify trends and reduce risk.
Assist Safety Manager in the development of Company safety policy and program, and make revisions as needed to maintain compliance with applicable regulations.
Assist Safety Manager in developing and presenting companywide safety training at various times throughout the year.
Be a safety resource to project leadership and field personnel.
Other projects may be assigned or requested by Supervisor.
Assist project management with airport and railroad safety and security requirements.
Increase awareness and ensure the care, appearance, maintenance and proper use of Company owned or leased equipment, tools and materials.
May serve as Safety Manager on Design-Build or other Project types when required.
Assist with environmental issues.
Travel is required.
