WAGE: Up to $33.75/hour DOE
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Road & Bridge Department Lead Mechanic is responsible for the ongoing and unexpected maintenance and upkeep of County equipment, tools, and vehicles within the Road & Bridge Department. This position may be required to perform maintenance and repairs on other County vehicles from other departments as directed by the Road & Bridge Department Supervisor.
DUTIES:
ADMINISTRATION OF SHOP:
Assists and maintains communication with the Road & Bridge Supervisor regarding the planning, scheduling and implementation of maintenance on the fleet.
Completes equipment maintenance on County vehicles, construction equipment, and tools in a timely manner.
Accurately maintains records relating to all vehicle maintenance activity in a timely manner.
Ensures warranty work is scheduled & coordinates with dealers to ensure all work is completed. Is also familiar with warranty work and department required work.
Performs routine inspections and preventative maintenance on County vehicles.
Daily use of mechanical, welding, electrical, and other repair skills in the upkeep and rebuilding of damaged equipment.
PURCHASING:
Maintains adequate inventory of all necessary disposable shop supplies.
Maintains an adequate inventory of consumable construction/vehicle items.
Monitors inventory on hand and orders products to maintain an appropriate level.
SUPERVISION:
Assists the Road & Bridge Supervisor in the training of employees in the performance, operation, maintenance, construction and repair of county equipment.
Orients new employees to shop responsibilities, duties and job hazards.
Instruct county operators / truck drivers on how to maintain equipment.
PUBLIC RELATIONS:
Responds to the needs of the department staff regarding repairs, maintenance or technical support in a friendly, professional and expeditious manner.
Coordinates necessary repairs with the other departments of the county.
Attends meetings as needed or when requested to provide technical knowledge.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
Two (2) years experience relating to maintenance and repair of light and heavy duty construction equipment.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have a class A CDL or be able to obtain one within six (6) months of hire date.
Be knowledgeable in computers.
Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repairs, and maintenance.
Knowledge of diagnostic tools, engines, automotive repairs, and engine designs.
Skill in the use of diagnostic and automotive repair tools and skill in monitoring gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
Ability to have manual dexterity to apply torque and other specific physical traits to properly repair automotive and small engines.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must routinely lift and/ or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally over 50 pounds.
Routinely required to stand for long periods of time. Required to complete physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
