  Role Purpose

  The role is focused on ensuring that Capricorn continues to foster a strong risk management culture and is compliant with all relevant aspects of relevant legislation in both Australia and New Zealand. As part of this role, operational level support and oversight will be required to bringing a systematic and disciplined approach to the evaluation and effectiveness of operational and compliance risks, control, and governance processes, including the regular review of policies and procedures, progressing audit findings and investigating process improvements. The position collaborates closely with legal, data governance, as well as various executive and senior leaders across the business.

  Key Accountabilities

  Risk Management

  • Assisting in the oversight of Capricorn's control environment though active involvement in completion of the Risk Control Self-Assessment activities, Risk Appetite annual reviews, control test, compliance attestations, business continuity and assurance.

  • Develop and maintain Capricorn's risk owned frameworks, policies and procedures ensuring that they are compliant, remain fit for purpose and appropriate.

  • Monitor upcoming regulatory changes, external environment for impacts of new regulatory changes on Capricorn and support the business users in the interpretation, adoption and embedding of the requirements.

  • Respond to and provide proactive practical guidance and advice to the business on new initiatives and reviewing incidents and / or issues for systemic trends, root cause and business improvement opportunities.

  • Oversight of risk advisory operational processes, ensuring processes are compliance with internal best practice, efficient and effective with a focus on continuous process improvements.

  • Preparation of board papers and other executive level reporting with a focus on the development of key insights and the identification of areas of additional current and future focus / activity

  • Undertaking system reporting and maintenance.

  Leadership

  • Manage and report on team performance; hold direct reports accountable for achieving business plans, taking corrective action where necessary to ensure the accomplishment of the objectives.

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of professionals, ensuring individuals have clarity of team and individual goals, accountabilities and responsibilities.

  • Build an engaged and capable team, creating a safe, inclusive work environment where team members can thrive.

  Skills, Knowledge and Attributes

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with the ability to convey legal, regulatory and policy requirements in a simplified and easy-to-understand language.

  • High attention to detail with solid business analytical, and problem resolution skills.

  • Project management experience with an understanding of agile methodology.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide direction, delegate and remove obstacles to get work done.

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to management complex stakeholder relationships.

  • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications.

  Experience

  • 5+ years hands on operational / compliance / regulatory risk experience, ideally within large complex organisations / financial services sector.

  • Strong technical and analytical skills, with the ability to identify, quantify, and effectively raise business risks associated areas of non-compliance.

  Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce or related field.

  • Green belt or higher, Lean Six Sigma
