JOB REQUIREMENTS: POSITION SPECIFICS Title: Respiratory Therapist FTE:0.9 FTE (36 hours per week) Schedule: Variable days/nights, 6:00AM -6:00PM Holiday Rotation: 1-2 holidays per year Weekend Rotation: Every4th weekend On Call Requirements: None POSITION SUMMARY Responsible forperforming patient age-specific assessments designed to gather datarelevant to the patient\'s individual respiratory care needs, developinga plan of care, implementing the plan, providing treatment anddiagnostic services, organizing care and evaluating the effectiveness oftreatments/care provided. POSITION TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Assess,communicate with other disciplines, and coordinate care plan withphysician for patients with respiratory deficiencies. 2. Draw arterialblood gases, using knowledge of acid-base balance and appropriatetherapy based from blood gas result. 3. Provide patient therapies in acompetent and timely manner, including ventilator care, aerosol therapy,bronchial hygiene therapy, hyperinflation therapy, drawing arterialblood samples including samples from arterial lines, Oxygen therapiesand oximeter monitoring, Non-invasive ventilation, obtaining EtCO2 andmonitoring and chest tube assessment, set-up and maintenance. 4.Administer appropriate oxygen therapy using various delivery devices. 5.Provide patient education on a wide variety of respiratory-relatedtopics, including smoking cessation and pulmonary disease management. 6.Perform pulmonary function testing. 7. Assist in the pulmonaryrehabilitation program. 8. Develop new services and community outreachprograms as opportunities arise. 9. Attend child births when requested,providing neonatal life support when needed. 10. Respond to all CodeBlue codes throughout Hospital, managing patient\'s airway andinitiating life support. 11. Demonstrate effective communication skillswith coworkers, physicians, patients and patients\' family members. 12.Administer correct doses of medication, being aware of any possible sideeffects. 13. Maintain accurate, detailed charting and diligent chargingof daily department services. 14. Respond when \"on call\" to allhospital or physician calls. 15. Maintain accurate charting and billingrecords. 16. Maintain all equipment in clean and working order,including department computer systems. 17. Participate in continuingeducation through in-services and other programs. 18. Treat all patientsequally, with compassion and without regard to medical condition, socialstatus, or race. 19. Protect patients\' rights. POSITION REQUIREMENTSEducation: Required: Graduate from a school with a course of instructionin respiratory care approved by the American Medical Associationcommission on accreditation of Allied Health Education programs.Certification by National Board for Respiratory Care.
