Under general supervision and/or in collaboration with another researcher in the lab, will assist in the performance of laboratory research and procedures that could include some or all of the following experimental techniques: subcloning and plasmid construction, mutagenesis, cell culture, transfections, knockdown and knockout, fluorescence microscopy, Image analysis with ImageJ, data and statistical analysis, biochemical assays, protein purification. Collect, verify, record, and compile data and information in support of designated research projects. Perform tasks supporting overall lab operations and ordering. Hands on training in all of the above will be provided to motivated candidates.
About Voeltz Lab and MCDB Department:
The Voeltz Lab studies how organelle shape and membrane trafficking pathways function in normal mammalian cells and dissects how these pathways are altered in neurodegenerative diseases and during viral infection. The Voeltz lab is located in the MCDB Department on the main campus at CU Boulder.

What you'll do:
Assist PhD and/or Postdoctoral scientists in the lab by performing various research procedures in collaboration. Mentorship and training are provided.Collect, record, organize and verify the accuracy of data; perform calculations and prepare charts, graphs, and reports. May use software applications to assemble, score and/or format data. Configure and operate laboratory fluorescence microscopes and associated image analysis software. May maintain inventories of chemicals, reagents, and other laboratory supplies and place orders as indicated. Participate in laboratory meetings, and weekly roundtables. Department seminar attendance also encouraged.Maintain knowledge of current developments in research area through reading applicable literature and utilizing online resources. Generate data of reproducible quality for publication.
What you bring:
Education
Scientific Bachelors degree. 1-2 years experience working in a scientific lab as an undergraduate and/or as a technician.
Skills and Abilities
Able to learn complex tasks with general instruction. Able to use experience to perform a variety of new techniques. Motivated, collaborative, friendly and helpful.
Physical Requirements
Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet).

Compensation Range
$16.11 (minimum) - $20.14 (midpoint) - $26.15 (maximum)

HHMI's salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
