JOB REQUIREMENTS: Position Overview This person will serve as theprimary lab supervisor and provide technical assistance for apreclinical neuroscience research lab focused on understandingmechanisms controlling daily rhythms. The successful applicant willmanage a transgenic rodent colony, assist in the execution ofexperiments using a range of neuroscience approaches, and performessential lab administration (e.g. record keeping, purchasing,regulatory compliance). Duties and Responsibilities 1. Manage andoversee a transgenic rodent colony, including breeding, genotyping,weaning, and tissue collection to support ongoing research projects.This involves coordinating with other lab members to identify neededcohorts of animals, design experiments, and perform animal husbandry tomaintain a high quality of research. 2. Assist in the execution ofongoing research projects, including preparation of reagents,measurement of gene/protein expression, execution of cellular,behavioral and physiological assays, and performing small animalsurgery. The ideal candidate will be able to interpret data,trouble-shoot technical problems, and keep accurate records ofexperimental procedures. 3. Maintain regulatory compliance and licensurefor federal, state, and university requirements in relation to the useof animals, biohazardous materials, and controlled substances forresearch. 4. Maintenance of equipment and ordering of supplies requiredfor ongoing research projects. This includes using the MarquetteUniversity purchasing system and maintaining an accurate inventory ofall research related items. This also involves coordinating usage,maintaining equipment function, and troubleshooting issues. 5. Assist inthe training and supervising of lab personnel with different levels ofresearch experience (i.e., undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoraltrainees). 6. Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assignedor directed by the supervisor. A minimum of 1 yearof related experience required. The position requires being able to conductpreclinical research with rodents. Preferred Knowledge, Skills andAbilities Hands-on research experience in molecular biology,biochemistry, neuroscience, or related discipline. The ideal candidatewill have some prior knowledge of biochemistry, genetics, molecularbiology, anatomy, physiology, and/or small-animal husbandry. Preferredresearch experience includes working with transgenic animal models,performing genotyping, cell culture, small-animal surgeries, microscopy,and/or standard laboratory techniques including cryostat/vibratometissue collection, qRT-PCR, Western blot, immunohistochemistry, in situhybridization, cloning, plasmid purification, and/or bacterial culture.The ideal candidate would be willing to work flexible hours as needed toperform occasional evening or weekend work due to the nature of ourresearch program.
