The Section of Hematology/Oncology in the Department ofMedicine has a proud and long history of excellence in advancing cancercare through basic and translational discovery.
Job Summary
The Research Professional will lead cancer immunology projects in theSweis laboratory (sweislab.org). The laboratory is investigatingmechanisms of cancer immunotherapy resistance, through the use ofcutting-edge bladder cancer and skin cancer model systems. The positionrequires the ability to perform tasks independently and lead smallgroups within the lab on projects. Collaborations with otherlaboratories and investigators within the Section and Department areroutine.
With respect to laboratory technical skills, the individual must beproficient in cell/tissue culture, flow cytometry/sorting (FACS),protein isolation and analysis (western blot, ELISA, andimmunohistochemistry), RNA isolation and analysis by qRT-PCR, molecularbiology (PCR, genotyping, cloning plasmid constructs, DNA isolation andsequencing analysis, CRISPR). Knowledge of cancer immunology andadvanced experimental techniques such as single cell RNAseq or specialtranscriptomics is preferred. The individual must be comfortable withmouse modeling (husbandry/breeding, genotyping, surgical procedures,drug administration by oral gavage, intraperitoneal and tail veininjection harvest, protein, RNA and immunohistochemical analysis).
The professional will also be expected to train new members of thelaboratory. Finally, the candidate will be expected to generatemanuscripts, formulate grant proposals, and present research at majorconferences.
Responsibilities
Molecular biology - PCR, genotyping, cloning plasmid constructs, DNAisolation and sequencing analysis.Cell culture - in vitro experiments, retroviral transductions,CRISPR.Mouse work - maintenance of colonies, running experiments in mice.Immunoassays: Flow cytometry (FACS), ELISPOT, ELISA.Advanced experimental techniques (single cell sequencing, spatialtranscriptomics).Collate and analyze data.Maintain accurate, up-to-date and well-documented records ofprocedures performed and data generated.Summarize results, assist in interpreting findings, and generatemanuscripts and grants.Instruct new personnel including technologists, residents, medicalstudents, or fellows.Collaborates on development of new research projects with academicand community-based organizations.May present work at scientific meetings.Performs other related work as needed.Minimum Qualifications
