We are seeking a Research Nurse Manager, Casual who will be responsible for directing the provision of nursing care on an assigned patient care unit: Institute of Clinical Translational Research Bayview Clinical Research Unit (ICTR BV CRU). The Manager supervises and monitors professional and non-professional staff and ensures effective, safe & therapeutic nursing services meet establish hospital and accrediting agency regulations and guidelines. The Manager oversees operational management and strategic planning and implementation of clinical research and all day-to-day operations. This position reports directly to the CRU Medical Director and indirectly to the ICTR Administrator.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Sets goals consistent with the philosophy of assigned department and medical center.
Identifies strategies and sets target dates for goal attainment.
Manages the assignment and coordination of duties of unit personnel based on patient care needs, available staff, and unit needs.
Arranges for adequate coverage when personnel are absent.
Consults with Program Director and Administrator to determine long-range staffing needs and level of expertise required by program goals and utilization trends.
Maintains rapport with Nurse Managers for the other Clinical Research Units and Ambulatory nursing leadership.
Coordinates efforts for shared studies as needed.
Clinical Management
Establish and enforce unit procedures for scheduling, registration, research visits, and data collection.
Manage, report, and follow all unexpected and adverse events.
Establish and enforce all lab, safety, and bedside testing policies for the unit, consistent with JHH/JHU policies.
Delegate or perform clinical responsibilities to assure the smooth daily operation of the OPD. Clinical responsibilities include IV insertion, medication administration, pulse oximetry, EKG, vital signs, phlebotomy, glucose monitoring.
Process laboratory samples in accordance with study protocol.
Protocol Management
Monitor all clinical activities on the OPD to ensure compliance with JCAHO, JHH, JHU, state, federal, local, and NIH policies and standards.
Ensure implementation and adherence to HIPAA, GCP and JHHS Clinical Practice policies.
Minimum Qualifications
Individual must be a registered nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland or state where practicing.
Bachelor's degree in nursing or related discipline required.
Annual Certification in CPR is required.
Minimum of five year's experience in the specialty or a related area required.
Related Master's Degree may be considered in lieu of some experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree strongly preferred.S pecial Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Must complete Training Checklist for managers and supervisors (described in training catalog under Management Development Curriculum) within 12 months of employment/promotion date.
Knowledge of nursing theories, principles, and concepts
Analytical skills necessary to resolve problems requiring a professional level of knowledge in a specific discipline/field and/or improve enhance, or upgrade complex clinical, financial data processing, marketing or human resources systems and programs.
Communication skills necessary to effectively manage employees within assigned department and to persuade and negotiate with peer-level managers on issues and programs that impact the department.
Ability to effectively deal with conflicting view of issues and mediating fair and workable solutions.
Required Physical Abilities
Work requires occasional reaching and grasping objects.
Work requires occasionally using a keyboard to interact with computer systems.
Work requires proofreading and/or reviewing documents.
