About the Role:
The Research Director will work closely with the Executive Director of MOTT to manage and present research and data pertaining to the Massachusetts Travel and Tourism industry, preparing reports and briefing documents for the Executive Director, Secretariat, and Regional Tourism Councils as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities: (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
Manage all aspects of the MOTT research program, including data analysis, interpretation, reporting, and vendor oversight.Develop and manage trackable research for domestic marketing programs.Define and implement a research program driven by MOTT's information deficits and supports the development of a successful marketing strategy.Review, analyze, and summarize actionable marketing research data and reports for MOTT and Executive Office of Economic Development managers.Manage allocation of regional tourism grant funds in accordance with established formula guidelines.Monitor key data and publish a monthly tracking report.Responsible for managing all research and data management vendor contracts.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.Knowledge of methods and techniques use in collection of research data.Knowledge of the methods of technical and statistical report writing.Demonstrated ability to analyze statistical data and draw conclusions from that data.Demonstrated knowledge of market research methods and techniques.Ability to understand, apply, and explain the policies, procedures, specifications, standards, guidelines , laws, rules, and regulations governing MOTT.Strong ability to write concisely, express thoughts clearly and develop ideas in a logical sequence.Strong presentation skills.Ability to supervise, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the project to be accomplished.Familiarity with office procedures.Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
Preffered Qualifications:
Two years full-time employment in market research.Proficiency in MS-PowerPoint.Knowledge of or familiarity with tourism industry data providers, including but not limited to STR, Omnitrack, Tourism Economics.
Qualifications acquired on Job:
Knowledge of Massachusetts Travel industry infrastructure and practices.Knowledge of travel industry research and data sources.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least (A) four (4) years of full-time or, equivalent part-time, professional, professional internship, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in business administration, business management, public administration, public management, clinical administration or clinical management or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A certificate in a relevant or related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.
II. An Associate's degree in a related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.
III. A Bachelor's degree in a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.
IV. A Graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for three (3) years of the required experience.
V. A Doctorate degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience.
