As a Primate Behaviorist you will serve as technical expert for operational group with a direct focus on non-human primate (NHP) behavior and health. Coordinate activities involved in toxicology and metabolism studies. Perform technical procedures in various areas in compliance with appropriate SOPs, GLPs, and regulatory agency guidelines. To monitor animal health and welfare in compliance with the Animal Welfare Act and help maintain facilities for AAALAC compliance.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Perform research and development in area of expertise (DART, Telemetry, Safety Tox, Neuro Tox, Pathology, Micrographs)
Utilize computer software for forms and procedure generation.
Develop new procedures and associated SOPs.
Create metrics.
Perform edit and scheduling functions using data collection systems.
Assist in preparation of study costing, staff plans, and scheduling activities.
Participate in client visits, debriefings, and study initiations. Identifies and take appropriate action with problems, potential problems with protocols, SOPs, and schedules.
Participate in scientific presentations and posters (at AALAS, MARTA, Staff Meetings)
Report all animal care concerns and become involved in the resolution and appropriate corrective action, when necessary.
Learn about Positive Reinforcement Techniques (PRT), perform PRT (basic level) and develop specialized procedural training plans for NHPs, as required.
Learn behavior scoring measurement, evaluate animal suitability for study.
Oversee the management of new and existing NHP social groups. Perform social introductions, provide periodic assessment of compatibility.
Train and mentor staff on NHP behavior and PRT techniques. Develop and support proficiency monitoring for those involved in the care, use, acclimation, socialization and training of NHPs.
Ensure NHP behavior management training materials are continually reviewed in line with leading welfare developments and updated at least annually.
Provide annual refresher and topic-specific training to support the introduction of new processes and animal welfare refinements.
As requested, work with the Primate Behavior Program Manager and fellow behaviorists to contribute and support the global NHP behavior, positive reinforcement training (PRT), acclimation and socialization program.

Minimum Required:
Minimum three years of study-related experience
Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences with a minimum of three years’ direct primate experience. Experience may be substituted for education requirements.
Professional certification preferred (LATg/HT)
