JOB SUMMARY
The University of Connecticut School of Social Works Innovations Institute seeks qualified applicants for two open positions within the Research Assistant role, to be hired as Research Assistant 2 or Research Assistant 3, depending on the qualifications of the successful applicant.
The positions will be part of the Innovations Institutes growing portfolio of research and evaluation activities in partnership with local, state, and federal government agencies and organizations on behalf of children, youth, and families. The Innovations Institute advances research-based, inclusive, culturally responsive, and transformative solutions for child-, youth-, and family-serving public systems through implementation support, workforce development, and evaluation and continuous quality improvement (CQI). Positions with the Innovations Institute are fully remote, with expected travel to UConns Hartford Campus twice annually at the employees expense.
Innovations research staff compile and analyze data to guide systems and programs in their efforts to improve outcomes for children, families, and communities. The goal is to facilitate the translation of evidence-based and promising practices to the field and to draw from their implementation successes and challenges to inform practice and conduct research. Under the supervision of the Innovations research faculty, the open positions will assist with process and outcomes evaluations and CQI activities to support transformative projects related to childrens behavioral health and/or child welfare services. The successful candidate will support the collection, maintenance, analysis, and reporting of quality data related to workforce development, satisfaction, fidelity, and/or outcome measures consistent with contractual reporting requirements. Specifically, these positions will support initiatives in the National Wraparound Implementation Center (NWIC), mobile response and stabilization services, and/or evidence-based practice implementation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Research Assistant 2:
Assist service providers and public agencies with collecting and maintaining quality data using best practices and protocols.Manage data sets, such as merging, recoding, and cleaning data using statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R, STATA), and ensure that data is ready for analysis.Perform quantitative analyses that will provide actionable insights.Use data visualization templates to facilitate insights from the data collected for internal and external stakeholders.Assist in the preparation of presentations and written products for multiple audiences including academic manuscripts, public-facing one-pagers, and technical reports for decision-makers.Support internal CQI processes, including the preparation of evaluation reports to assess the effectiveness of programs and make data-driven recommendations, and dissemination strategies for evidenced-based service models supported by Innovations.Contribute to research and evaluation plans, including the study design, sampling, measurement, data collection procedures, and data analysis strategies.Summarize relevant background literature to help interpret findings from data analyses and write literature reviews.Research Assistant 3:
Design and execute quantitative analytic plans that will provide actionable insights.Develop data visualizations based on the needs of internal and external stakeholders that facilitate insights based on the data collected.Work with stakeholders to efficiently identify research needs supporting CQI and evaluation goals.Develop research and evaluation plans, including the study design, sampling, measurement, data collection procedures, and data analysis strategies.Provide technical assistance to service providers and public agencies in developing data collection procedures, building data collection instrumen s, regularly reviewing data, and providing feedback to resolve data quality issues.Independently prepare presentations and written products for multiple audiences, including academic manuscripts, public-facing one-pagers, and technical reports for decision-makers.Contribute to the design and implementation of internal CQI processes, including the preparation of evaluation reports to assess the effectiveness of programs and make data-driven recommendations and dissemination strategies for evidenced-based service models supported by Innovations.Oversee report preparation by other research staff, including reviewing reports for quality and accuracy, and ensuring that reporting deadlines are met.Contribute to and manage work plans.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Research Assistant 2:
Bachelor's degree in social sciences, social work, education, public policy, mathematics, statistics, information management, economics, health science, or another field related to the research.Two to three years of post-degree experience or Masters degree in social sciences, social work, education, public policy, mathematics, statistics, information management, economics, health science, or another field of study related to the research and up to one year of experience.Research Assistant 3:
Bachelor's degree in social sciences, social work, education, public policy, mathematics, statistics, information management, economics, health science, or another field related to the research.Four to five years of post-degree experience or Masters degree in social sciences, social work, education, public policy, mathematics, statistics, information management, economics, health science, or another field of study related to the research and two to four years of post-degree experience.For Both Levels:
Experience in statistical programming, data/statistical analysis, and interpreting findings using statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R, STATA) as well as spreadsheet applications.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
For Both Levels:
Knowledge of research methods and statistics. Ability to understand and utilize scientific terminology and research theory.Experience merging, cleaning, and analyzing administrative databases.Experience with rapid-cycle evaluation, data visualization, and/or geospatial analysis.Evidence of strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects at once, respond to tight timelines, pay attention to detail, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.Ability to convey complex information in writing and verbally so that it is easily understood by stakeholders and organizations.Experience performing literature reviews and summarizing results.Experience maintaining effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders to carry out research and/or evaluation activities.Subject matter knowledge related to childrens behavioral health, child welfare, and/or implementation science.APPOINTMENT TERMS
These are full-time, end-date positions subject to renewal based on funding and satisfactory performance. Positions with the Innovations Institute are fully remote and expected to travel to UConns Hartford Campus twice annually.Occasional sponsor-funded travel to contracting states and sites may also be required. Compensation and rank will be based on experience and will range from $60,000 to $80,000 annually (full-time equivalent).
