SUMMARY:
The Research and Instruction Librarian is responsible for providing general and advanced discipline-specific research assistance and instruction services to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff of a designated college, including collection development and engagement, with a focus on coordinating research services for all off-campus instructional sites. This position, primarily located on-site at A&M-Commerce at Dallas and the Mesquite Metroplex Center, requires regular travel to multiple instruction sites across Northeast Texas.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinates and implements initiatives to enhance the research skills and library experience of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff at all off-campus instructional sites. Assesses effectiveness of off-campus strategies and initiatives in support of undergraduate and graduate student success.
Develops and expands outreach and engagement programs, partnerships, and policies to expand off-campus instructional sites awareness of library services, collections, technologies, and scholarly communication issues.
Collaborates with campus entities that support student learning and with faculty to integrate information literacy into the general education curriculum.
Serves as primary contact for off-campus instructional sites orientation activities.
Provides library instruction, develops and creates print and online instructional materials, plans and conducts classes and workshops, and integrates information and digital literacy into the teaching, learning, and research activities of the university.
Provides research assistance (in-person, phone, chat, email, video conferencing, etc.) and serves as a subject librarian to a designated college/academic department.
Collaborates with colleagues and faculty to facilitate collection development to align scholarly resources with the teaching and research needs of the university and college.
Plans and participates in engagement activities and events and fosters collaborations with students, faculty, and staff in support of student success and retention.
Participates in the assessment of research and user engagement activities.
Serves on library and university committees.
Participates in continuing education and professional development opportunities.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: One year of post MLS experience in research services (research, reference, instruction. Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Attention to detail and project management skills. Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Ability to: Ability to excel individually and as a team member. Ability to regularly travel to all off-campus instructional sites and the Commerce campus . Ability to work beyond normal office hours (evenings, nights, and weekends) as needed. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to adapt to a changing library environment.
Licensing/Professional Certifications: Valid driver's license.
Physical Requirements: Ability to move medium weight boxes, books, heavy book truck or similar items.
Other Requirements: Ability to handle material which can contain dust or microscopic mold spores.
PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
Two years of post MLS experience in research services (research, reference, instruction) in an academic library.
Experience developing online learning materials with e-learning technologies/software and other platforms (SpringShare, Camtasia, Articulate, Lectora, etc.).
Experience with instructional and universal design and active learning techniques.
Experience with instructional planning and design in an academic setting (ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education).
Experience working with undergraduate student populations.
Experience in assessing effectiveness of library services and initiatives.
