Job Summary
Night Shift: 6:30pm - 6:00am
Under general supervision, the professional nurse adheres to the AmericanNurses Association (ANA) standards of professional nursing andperformance, and the ANA Code of Ethics to provide care to all healthcareconsumers. Applies critical thinking, evidence-based practices, andcompetence to collaborate with the health care team to promote excellence inhealthcare consumer safety and quality outcomes. The Correctional Care nursing staff provides clinical care at either DowntownDetention Center or the Denver County Jail. These environments of care have ahigher level of clinical acuity and environmental hazard than inpatient andambulatory nursing settings based on the nature of the facility. The detentioncenters employ a high level of security, which impacts daily workingconditions, including both personal and institutional safety and clinicaloperations. Environmental awareness, critical thinking, and decisive,decision-making skills are required in the correctional care setting.
Essential Functions:
Maintain a broad and comprehensive nursing scope of practice that includesinfant, pediatric, and Adult clinical care (10%)Maintain a broad and comprehensive nursing scope of practice that includespreventive care, emergent care/crisis response, triage skills, generalacute care skills, and behavioral health skills (10%)Maintain a broad and comprehensive nursing scope of practice that includesspecialty skills such as eating disorders, oncological care, and IVtherapy (10%)Monitor, record and report symptoms and changes in patient's condition andvital signs (10%)Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records (5%)Develop and modify patient care plans as indicated by patient's responsesand conditions (5%)Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patient's responses andconditions (5%)Consult and coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan,implement and evaluate patient care (5%)Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity (5%)Direct and supervise less skilled nursing/health care personnel (5%)Prepare patients for, and assist with examinations and treatments (5%)Assess the needs of individuals, families and/or communities to identifypotential health or safety problems (5%)Instruct individuals and families on health education and disease preventionand after care (5%)Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent or disabled patients(5%)Medication administration, documentation, and reassessment (5%)Perform Lead/Relief Charge Nurse duties (5%)
Education:
Associate's Degree Required
Work Experience:
1-3 years One year experience in a direct patient care setting Requiredless than 1 year Correctional Care experience preferred
Licenses:
BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart AssociationRequired andRN-Registered Nurse - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required and
