NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Team with staff and fellow managers within Center 1400 and throughout Sandia as well as university partners and sponsors to deliver on current commitmentsCraft the future for the laboratories by leading the team developing these technologiesHandle day-to-day management activities for the teamRecruit, hire, mentor and develop staff membersCollaborate as an integral member of a cohesive management team in developing strategic direction and executing that strategyWork with the team to maintain and grow an open research basis while connecting to the mission elements of the laboratory

Qualifications We Require:
Bachelor's and master's degree in computer science, mathematics, theoretical neuroscience, physics, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a relevant field plus 4 or more years relevant experience, Or the equivalent combination of relevant education and experienceExperience in scientific or technical leadershipGood interpersonal skills as evidenced by engagement in scientific and/or technical communitiesAble to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
Qualifications We Desire:
PhD in computer science, mathematics, theoretical neuroscience, physics, computer engineering, electrical engineering or a relevant field2 or more years of demonstrated leadership experience.Experience with theoretical or practical aspects of either neuromorphic hardware, neuromorphic algorithms, or machine learningKnowledge in the complimentary areas (e.g., high performance computing architectures, machine learning, quantum computing)Expertise, experience, and relationships in one or more of the relevant mission domains and/or customer/stakeholder communities of the department (Advanced Science Computing Research (ASCR), National Security Programs, Energy & Climate)Eagerness to learn about the department's work and promote it internally and externallyAbility to seek out, establish, and maintain cross-cutting relationships internally and externally (academia, other labs, industry, government)Ability to recruit, hire, retain, and mentor staff membersAbility to work as part of a diverse and cohesive team of managers to craft and fulfill the center's visionEvidence of leadership at the Laboratory or in a similar external environment and high potential for further leadership developmentAbility to develop an overarching strategic view of trends and future directions in relevant technology areasAbility to connect to Sandia's mission elements and transition research into useExperience leading or contributing to complex software projects with dual mission/open use
About Our Team:
The department of Cognitive & Emerging Computing (Org. 01421) pursues foundational research and development of:- emerging general-purpose energy-efficient and beyond-Moore computing paradigms;- cognitive, brain-inspired and neuromorphic computing, human-machine interface technologies;- advanced heterogenous architectures based on integrated commodity components, special purpose accelerators, neural architectures and algorithms. The department staff and manager also interface externally with sponsors, professional societies, and universities.
The department is part of the Extreme Scale Computing Group, which seeks to bring together multiple disciplines including neuroscience, quantum computing, software engineering and computer science to drive the future of computing for the national interest. This group is a part of Sandia's Center for Computing Research (CCR).

Security Clearance:
