Job Description
Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children (PRHC) operated by the Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking an experienced registered nurse to assist in enhancing the quality and safety of patient care within the hospital. Reporting to the Chief Quality Officer, the Quality and Regulatory Nurse will lead initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes and ensuring regulatory compliance. By implementing robust quality programs, overseeing data collection and reporting, and managing risk, you will contribute to the delivery of safe and high-quality healthcare services.
The selected candidate will adhere to hospital policies and state and federal laws, particularly in relation to patient privacy and confidentiality governed by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Your contribution as the Quality and Regulatory Nurse will contribute to a culture of excellence in patient care and help drive continuous improvement within the hospital.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
• Develop, coordinate, and implement the continual readiness plan for Joint Commission Accreditation, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and standards.
• Lead Joint Commission or other regulatory agency surveys, including unannounced investigations by the Department of Public Health Care Quality.
• Oversee the development of remedial action plans and evidence of standards compliance for internal findings and Joint Commission survey findings.
• Conduct risk investigations of reported incidents through the hospital's incident reporting system or other means, such as Joint Commission complaints, and facilitate the development of corrective action plans.
• Create and submit written reports to regulatory agencies (e.g., DPH Healthcare Quality, Board of Registration in Medicine, and The Joint Commission) according to required specifications.
• Monitor corrective action plans, patient complaints, and grievances to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Chair or participate in applicable committees, councils, and task forces, providing necessary data and quality reporting.
• Provide training and education on quality, risk management, and performance improvement to staff, including new hire orientation.
• Develop a quality and patient safety scorecard in collaboration with clinical and operational leaders to identify trends and track adherence to patient safety goals.
• Collaborate with departmental leaders to guide the development of department-specific quality assessment data indicators.
• Monitor quality assessment and performance improvement activities of departments and committees for compliance with the hospital's Quality Improvement program, report risks, compliance concerns, and opportunities for improvement to the Chief Quality Officer.
• Develop, review, revise, and implement written procedures for the Quality Management department, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and applicable state and federal laws, including HIPAA regulations for patient privacy and confidentiality.
Required Qualifications:
• Proficient in the principles and practices of health care including terminology and standard abbreviations used.
• Skilled in the preparation of charts, graphs, and tables.
• Strong understanding of standard clinical policies, procedures, methods, and techniques.
• Demonstrated expertise in interviewing techniques.
• Capability in utilizing problem-solving techniques.
• Ability to comprehend, clarify, and apply the laws, rules, and regulations governing agency operations.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Advanced degree in Nursing or a related healthcare field.
• Experience with youth and young adults with physical disabilities.
• Certification in Quality Management, Risk Management, or Patient Safety.
• Extensive experience in healthcare quality improvement and regulatory compliance.
• Strong knowledge of accreditation standards and regulatory requirements, such as those set by the Joint Commission.
• Proven track record of leading successful Joint Commission surveys and navigating regulatory agency inspections.
• Familiarity with data analysis and statistical methods used in quality measurement and reporting.
• Experience in conducting training and educational sessions on quality, risk management, and patient safety topics for healthcare professionals
• An appreciation of the importance of a multidisciplinary team, and what patient care departments bring to the patient care endeavor, and the strength of that partnership.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Outlook, Teams and Word.

Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children (PRHC) located in Canton, MA is a Joint Commission Accredited, 90+ bed pediatric hospital predominately serving children and young adults (ages 8-22) operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The mission of PRHC is to provide medical, rehabilitative, educational, recreational, habilitative, transitional, and complementary alternative medical services to children and young adults with multiple disabilities, assisting them to achieve their optimal level of independence in all aspects of life. PRHC offers coordinated medical care and therapies in a hospital-based environment, as well as, K-12 schooling, located on the grounds. Educational Services are provided by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Qualifications
First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility and (B) of which at least two years must have been in a supervisory, administrative, or managerial capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A Graduate degree with a major in Nursing may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience. No substitutions will be allowed for the required (B) experience.
Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES: Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing .
Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.
Special Requirements: Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.
