Burns & McDonnell’s Upper Midwest regional operation is actively seeking an Environmental Studies Project Manager to manage projects and support client development for our environmental division. The technical areas encompassed by this position include National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analysis and managing siting, routing, environmental surveys, and other various permitting activities across utilities, oil and gas, renewable energy and other sectors. The candidate should have an established and successful history managing and leading tasks for both small and large-scale projects including but not limited to assisting with developing proposals and cost estimates, leading and executing project tasks, managing project budgets and forecasts, delivering client satisfaction, and mentoring staff.
The Senior Scientist/Project Manager will work within our Environmental Services (ENS) Global Practice to perform the following duties:
Project management, team leadership, and mentoring of junior staff.
Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers and contractors and develop new business opportunities.
Develop cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
Prepare and present client and professional meeting presentations.
Manage sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.
Prepare studies, evaluations, NEPA and state documentation for all types and sizes of environmental projects.
Lead/manage habitat assessments, species-specific presence/absence surveys, avian and bat studies, other state and federal protected species-specific studies.
Lead land use, transportation, and other entitlement permitting efforts.
Experience managing and navigating the Public Utilities Commission process in MN and the region is desired.
Responsible for Quality Assurance/Quality Control process adherence.
Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in environmental science, Ecology or Wildlife Biology or related degree from accredited program plus10 years of applicable consulting experience in a wide variety of areas ranging from leading and managing technical teams, project management and business development.
Specific experience in electric power transmission, oil and gas, renewable energy, transportation and other similar markets is preferred. Local and regional knowledge and relationships with existing clients is preferred. Nationwide experience is a plus.
Client and business development experience is preferred.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are required to develop and maintain relationships.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Working understanding of GIS.
Excellent writing skills.
Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite.
Strong experience working with both private and public-sector clients.
