Boeing Global Services is currently seeking an experienced Project Engineer to become part of the C-17 Sustainment Program in San Antonio, TX.
The C-17 Sustainment Program has a bright future with planned aircraft operation for many decades to come. In support of this goal, the program is seeking a motivated and proactive individual for the C-17 Mechanical Equipment & Subsystems Integrity Program (MECSIP) Lead role. This position will be located at the Boeing Aircraft Maintenance & Modifications Depot in San Antonio, TX.
This position will be reporting to the Mechanical and Mission Systems Engineering Manager who works at the Boeing Southern California Design Center in Long Beach, CA.
The successful candidate shall support the United States Air Force (USAF) Division MECSIP Manager in executing the C-17 MECSIP in accordance with MIL-STD-1798 (MECSIP) and the USAF C-17 MECSIP Master Plan. This role’s emphasis is on safety, supply and sustainment, and is a key integrator between the Boeing C-17 Mechanical and Electrical engineering teams and leadership, and the USAF C-17 System Program Office (SPO) MECSIP Manager, cognizant engineers, and leadership.
Position Responsibilities:
Generally:
Provides the Engineering leadership to a team representing multiple skill areas, which may include internal and external resources and customers.
Develops statement of work (SOW) to satisfy research and development, ongoing and new business requirements.
Works with customers and management to obtain approval. Responds to changes to SOW, assesses the impact and negotiates proposed changes to determine modifications to the deliverables, resources, costs and schedules.
Leads project execution to complete the work statement. Identifies performance metrics.
Plans, identifies, and coordinates resources required over the life of the project or program.
Defines plans for risk mitigation and opportunity. Compares actual results to baseline plan to assess project performance, efficiencies, productivity and lessons learned.
Provides technical, business and integration leadership for the development and execution of project or team plans.
Works under minimal direction.
Specifically:
Develop a comprehensive understanding of MIL-STD-1798 and the C-17 MECSIP Master Plan.
Support the USAF SPO MECSIP Manager in the responsibilities defined in MIL-HDBK-1798 to manage the health of mechanical and electrical systems.
Lead the maintenance and execution the MECSIP roadmap.
Analyze data from reporting and reliability databases, deficiency reports, working groups, and other sources; and develop recommendations for preventative maintenance actions, repair and overhaul procedures, and inspection criteria for Boeing and USAF leadership.
Lead the annual C-17 MECSIP Working Group, and support the annual all-USAF MECSIP Conference
Author the C-17 annual MECSIP Execution Report.
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
5+ years’ experience in aviation, aerospace, and/or defense systems
Engineering knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems
3+ years’ experience in project engineering
3+ years’ experience in engineering sustainment
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
10+ years’ experience in aviation, aerospace, and/or defense systems
Experience in a Department of Defense weapon system sustaining program
C-17 engineering knowledge
Typical Education & Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary pay range: $114,750 – $155,250
