  Professional Staff Nurse

  UPMC Carlisle is looking for a Professional Staff Nurse for their Acute Cardiac & Neuro Unit!

  Position Highlights:

  Ø Full-Time, 36 hours per week (3, 12-hours shifts)

  Ø Every other weekend, every other holiday.

  Ø 24 bed unit.

  Unit Description / Highlights:

  · This unit specializes in providing care to patients with cardiac & neurological conditions.

  · Frequent interdisciplinary collaboration between other healthcare professionals and essential services departments.

  · The Acute Cardiac & Neuro unit fosters a supportive atmosphere that values each team member’s contributions!

  · Coffee bar located in employee lounge.

  This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus!

  Graduate Nurse (no experience): 2-year commitment, $15,000 sign-on bonus + Monthly Loan Repayment of up to $20,000 over a span of 3-years (2023/2024 grads).

  1+ years of experience: 2-year commitment, $20,000 sign-on bonus.

  Purpose:

  As a Professional Staff Nurse on our Acute Cardiac and Neuro Unit, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care to patients with cardiac and neurological conditions. You'll work closely with a team of dedicated healthcare professionals, all committed to delivering the best possible patient outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity to grow in your nursing career within a dynamic and supportive work environment!

  Key Responsibilities:

  Ø Provide compassionate and competent care to patients with acute cardiac and neurological conditions.

  Ø Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, therapists, and support staff.

  Ø Monitor and assess patients' conditions, administer medications, and assist with procedures as needed.

  Ø Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.

  Ø Educate patients and their families about their conditions and treatment plans.

  Ø Contribute to a positive work culture through teamwork and support of staff morale activities.

  Ø Participate in unit-based initiatives and quality improvement projects.

  Ø Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, as well as safety and infection control protocols.

  Qualifications:

  Zero - 2 years of Registered Nurse experience required - Graduate Nurses are welcome to apply!

  BSN preferred but not required.

  The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.

  They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.

  Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.

  Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.

  Good clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.

  Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.

  Mobility and visual manual dexterity. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.

  Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  UPMC approved national certification preferred. Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

  Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  Registered Nurse (RN)

  Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

  Act 33 with renewal

  Act 34 with renewal

  Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal

  Graduate nurses must complete licensure examination within FOUR MONTHS of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first. Though temporary permits are valid for one year from the date of graduation, not one year from issue of permit (or until the results of the examination are known at which time it becomes null and void), UPMC requires that GNs take the licensure examination within 4 months of their start date or they will be terminated or demoted from the GN position, at the discretion of the BU.
